My Top 10: Anime of 2011

It has become sort of a tradition for us fans to list out our top ten anime of the year and since I've been doing it for the past couple of years, I might as well continue with the tradition. I think you can tell a lot from the list as to what the person's preferences are when it comes to anime, and how (or if) it changed over the years.

When I look at my 2010 and 2009 lists, I spotted a difference. Comedy anime pretty much dominated my list in 2010. However, I rather enjoyed anime with heavier plot and solid story in 2009. I am excited to see which anime will make it to the list for 2011.

My top 5 choices were easy but I was having quite a hard time with the bottom 5. Some I like because of the characters but found the story to be weak and the end anti-climatic while some I like for the story but didn't have anything that stood out. I need my criteria sorted out lol. Besides, shits were crazy at the start of the year and I hardly watched anything which mean I missed watching some few good anime like Madoka, Steins;Gate, Hourou Musuko, etc. I am pretty sure that at least my bottom 5 anime would be slightly different if I did completed those shows. Thus, after looking around the aniblogsphere I can see how my list is different from most of them. Oh well...

So for the time being, lets just get on with the list. After a long and very careful deliberation, here are my personal top 10 anime of 2011 in mixed orders:

9. Ao no Exorcist

If it wasn't for the anti-climatic ending and the fact that half of the episodes were fillers, Ao no Exorcist could have ended up higher up on my list because despite everything I just freaking love the Okumura twins. They also managed to keep me interested even through those fillers episodes that included the obligatory beach episode for the summer. At the end of the day, the casts and strong characters became it's backbone and carried this show through for me. Ao no Exorcist is a pretty darn typical shounen anime and A-1 Pictures knew this so when the series can't be original, they sure as hell live up to expectation by making sure that it was entertaining with a decent story for me to enjoy.

6. Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san!

Each episode is only 12 minutes long but it manages to offend pretty much everyone and everything which in my opinion what makes this show so brilliantly funny. The comedy was unconventional and the characters even more so. Azazel-san pretty much reminds me of Gintama with it's random jokes and anything that reminded me of Gintama's humour deserved to be in my top 10 list. Beware though, enter at your own risk.

2. Ano hi Mita Hana no Namae O Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai

This show is as real as it gets when it comes to dealing with friendship, death and feelings and learning to deal with all that while day after day you grow farther apart from each other yet the attachment, or that bond, is still as strong as ever. Ano Hana for short (We Still Don't Know the Name of the Flower We Saw That Day - for the long English translation), hits so close to home that even to this day, I can't bring myself to watch the last episode of the show. I am not ready for either a disappointment, or a heartbreak. With Ano Hana, I was forced to see, consider and analyze far more than what would be considered healthy. Thanks to this show, it gave me the courage to seek those friends that I thought would have been best forgotten. Meeting them again was liberating and it made me see how much each of us have grown up as a person, either for better or for worse. For an anime show to have that kind of effect on a human being in real life, Ano Hana is definitely quite special in it's own right.

5. Kimi to Boku

There is no practicing of trash music, or tea time after school. If you think this is the male version of K-ON than you are incredibly wrong so for the haters, clearly you are missing out on this one. Granted that it is full of bishies, but what is wrong with that? If us females can watch Lucky Star or K-ON, then it is definitely manly of you guys if you could watch this without feeling disgusted. People have the pre-notion that this show has no plot and is just a BL fantasies for us fans/gays. It is anything but that. Kimi to Boku tackles real issues growing up as boys (I grew up surrounded by boys so I have an idea or two). It was an honest show and because of that I found it alluring and it left me wanting more.

4. Fate/Zero

I know shit about Typemoon and thus why I have some doubts going into the Fall season, as I've said in my preview. However after watching the first episode, and the fact that ufotable didn't disappoint me at all with their delivery, I quickly become a fan. Part of it was thanks to Reiki, a reader of my Fate/Zero episodic posts who never got tired in teaching me the ropes about the Fate-verse and gradually made me interested in it as well. It's true what the saying goes then... tak kenal maka tak cinta (you can't fall in love if you didn't know them). Fate/Zero far surpasses Fate/Stay Night, it's predecessor, in every way imaginable. I love Kara no Kyoukai for the dark themes and I basically got what I was asking for in Fate/Zero due to the awesomeness of ufotable, from the directing, visuals, character expositions and everything/anything else you can think of. It all adds up into a much more complex and intriguing tale, a journey that is certainly unforgettable and definitely fulfilling.

Wow, really klux? Two years in a row? YES REALLY. Working'!! is a fine piece of work. The changed of director and crew for the the second season really did pay off as can be seen from the story. Everything from the animation to sound, characterization to story are all quality materials and together form both a visually and emotionally satisfying experience. The anime is far past the point of debate whether watching it would be enjoyable and worth one's while, because it most certainly is. The comedy is casual and yet hit with such force that all you can do is laughed your ass off. Unlike in first season where the focus was only on Inami and Takanashi, we have different plots that keep us on our toes because the way Working'!! is written you don't know what to expect. Most of the comedies I watched were average if not mediocre so when something like Working'!! comes along, something new, something exciting, something that you can watch and be merry about, I just ended up enjoying it. The fact that it had pique my interest from season 1 meant that it had established itself as something special, something good enough that A-1 Pictures able to be improved on after every episodes. Just how did they do it, really? For everything that Working'!! does just beautifully right, there is usually little it gets horribly wrong. I absolutely endorse this anime to anyone even if they didn't ask for my opinion.

7. Persona 4 the Animation

I didn't play the games but from what I've heard from those who did play and watch the anime, the anime is pretty faithful to the games and though it has it shares of pros and cons, I want to pay my respect for the producers. I thought it would be straight as an arrow and just action from end to finish. Persona 4 surprised me at the humors which I didn't expect from such show and it is mostly the reason why it ended up on my list. Since the show is on going, it wouldn't be fair to exaggerate so I ended my thoughts here.

10. Ikoku Meiro no Croisée

This show was the biggest surprised for me for the summer. It wasn't even on my radar until I watched the first couple of episodes. Croisee was mostly overlooked and quickly disregarded by many because just like me, the initial reaction to the preview was that this anime is nothing more than another "moe-trash" and simple pandering. Well, true that Yune was moe but damn she's adorable. This comes from someone who has a personal vendetta against moe (that of K-ON's standard). I love the interaction between the characters especially the two main protagonists. I found myself leaning a bit closer to the computer screen whenever the scene involved Yune and Claude. In fact, I didn't feel the slightest of guilt trying to make Claude a lolicon. Croisée of the Foreign Labyrinth is a piece of resistant to much of the failings that we often found in both historical and slice-of-life anime.

3. Mirai Nikki

I love blood in my anime but sadly we didn't get enough of that lately. Deadman Wonderland was promising but damn it all those censorship, as well as the weak ass story, made me quickly lost my interest. Mirai Nikki on the other hand has a compelling story and a company of pretty wacky characters, especially Yuno Gasai, who quite possibly the only character that made this show so much win. Mirai Nikki has everything I am looking for in anime that isn't a comedy or a slice-of-life. It is a psychology thriller, with murders, gore, sins and some demented killers. They are the mechanics that makes this show so addictive. Nutcase is the right choice of word that really sums up Mirai Nikki as a show. Haters be damned.

8. Chihayafuru

The general idea that this show is about a Karuta card game should put us all to sleep but after one episode, most of us has nothing but praise for this show. It wasn't just about the card game, which they successfully made it looks like it was an exciting game, but it also has that element of friendship and romance that surrounded the three main protagonist. I quickly found myself rooting for Taichi, knowing very well how hurt and lonely it could be when your love is unrequited. The fact that I can identified with Taichi should be enough reason why this show ended up in my list but that is not all. The premise is simple and yet the story is so well written/thought of that it will just pull you deeper with every passing episodes. This is an anime that is best experienced one episode at a time as it thrives from the long exposure.


And so ladies and gentlewomen... that concludes my list. I'm pretty balance with my choice of anime of 2011 from heavy stuff that involved friendship, murders, horrors, and even Master/Servants relationship to the more light hearted comedy with a dash of slice of life (and perhaps a little BL) in it.

I wished for the anime industries to have better anime produced in 2011 and my wish was granted. Compared to previous couple of years, 2011 can be said as a come back year for some anime. They have everything that taste just right for my palate from thought-provoking anime to slice of life anime about boys instead of girls. Hopefully 2012 would be even grander than 2011.

Having said that, from 2011/12 Winter season preview... it looks rather disappointing... T_T

My Favorite Character List: A

Here I am, going to list my favorite character from every anime that I have completed in alphabetical order. It probably take a while till we get to Z but I sure am happy for at least I have something to post

Glo has written his list as I am sure many other anime bloggers have. Now it is my turn and pretend that someone actually care. I am going to pick only one character from every anime. Though it sounds simple, it wasn't. Writing this favorite character list is going to be stressful indeed and emotional too. Lets dive into it then.

I am all for distant relationship. I know many think that it won't work and perhaps they are right but the thrill just ain't the same. I should know. I was in a distant relationship for 4 years. It would have work too if one of us didn't chicken out. Hence why I picked Takaki as my favorite character from this greatly written movie. Despite their ages and the temptation, he manages to hold on to the promise he and Akari made. I wished my ex would have came by the train to meet me too. That would have been awfully romantic. Oh well... things weren't meant to be *shrugs*

Oh god, I contemplated whether or not I should include stupid OVAs like this one but I don't want to cheat so it doesn't matter that I dislike this three episodes OVA, I am still going to find a character to pick as my favorite or in this case, a character that I can tolerate. After much deliberation, I have to go with Aika just because she's good with planes. I still am not sure why the fuck did I watch this ecchi OVAs. I should have dropped it when I saw too many panties shot. Orz

I have a thing for dark hair men (you will read contradictory statement later on) so naturally I fell for Riki. It's fun to see him all bonded and what not for Mink (who reminds me of Baka Prince by the way). He's such a turn on. Who cares if he looks like a girl sometimes? Oh god, did I mention that he's so gay?!

He is the underdog who was always got bullied by Ikki. I like him the instant I laid my eyes on him. Maybe that snowhat or the way he dresses or simply the fact that he's blonde but he has that certain qualities about him that made him different. He has high regards for girls and unlike Ikki, he has morals. I like the fact that even though he doesn't has natural talent, he pushed himself to become better and eventually the best, one that can rival Ikki.

Tell me honestly now, who doesn't want to be her? She gets to fuck Kana and then have a threesome with Aki and Sora. Isn't that what every teenage girl dream of? XD

when she took off  her megane, you best get ready for something evil

I wasn't expecting much from this series and when I first saw the first episode, it was okay until Nakamura Sawa character was introduced. She is not your typical female anime character. Then in episode 2, I was totally hooked. I love her character, every little bit of it; the evil, weird and I-don't-give-a-fuck parts. She somewhat reminds me of myself in a way; planting an evil seed to the mind of innocent shouta. She's awesome and one of the most original character I've seen in anime.

This is a tough one because all the male protagonists were awesome one way or the other and even Allison is so damn likeable with her personalities. In the end however, I have to choose Will because it takes a real man to handle Allison and he handled her just fine. I also like the fact that he can be so clueless sometimes when it comes to the matter of the heart. That makes him so adorably cute.

FUCK THIS IS HARD! I don't want to choose between Tsuyukusa, Bonten and Kon. All three of them managed to make me wet my pantsu one way or the other but I did promise to pick only one so I go for Kon. He is cool-headed and logical. He lost the used of his arm but it doesn't seem to bother him at all. He took the news and move on, and he actually does better at what he's doing. Goes to show that determination can go a long way. Also, he's a freakingly good cook. Simply put, Kon is my waifu candidate.

This one is easy. I fell for Hinata the first time I laid my eyes on him. Not only he's hot and accessible pairing to almost any of the Brigade members, he is also very funny and gentlemanly. He often gets bullied by Yuri when they are on their missions but he knows where his loyalty lies. I also like the fact that he is such a caring person when he wants to be. Angel Beats 2 should have him as the protagonist. It's the only right route to go. After all, he is the protagonist in the novel prequel "Angel Beats - Track Zero".

First of all, let me made clear that this shounen-ai OVA is full of shit so the only way for me to pick my favorite character from this shitfest is by picking the character that I want to fuck the most and that lucky character happens to be Kyouhei, who was Kai fuck buddy. Too bad Kai dumped him in the end to have an incest with his long lost twin brother. Fear not, Kyouhei, Klux is here!

It was a toss between Anaru and Yukiatsu. I love them both and actually do want them to happen. I'll be honest though. I have one more episode to go but I can't just seem to get myself to watch it. Ano Hana hits too close to home and I don't think I'm ready to know how it ends yet. Anyhoo, why I like Anaru? Simply because I can see myself in her. I went through the same shit of loving someone who is in love with someone else. She's the most relatable character in Ano Hana for me personally.

He's a patisserie and I love baking. Do the math. Besides, he's gay as fuck and boy he's so damn charming when he wants his man. I want to see Chikage x Ono happens! But above all else, I want to see the live action drama!
edit: I've seen the movie and I don't want Chikage x Ono to happen. I want Tachibana x Ono damn it!

I am a sucker for a thick-rimmed megane so my heart is set on Yukio ever since I first saw him. But I am not that shallow of a person. Yukio as a character is full of awesomeness. He's responsible and fucking smart but at the same time vulnerable too when it comes to his twin older brother. That sense of vulnerability is what I think completes him and why my heart reaches out to him every single time. Not to mention that he looks fucking hot with them guns in his hands.

I only watched this movie once and I can't say it left me with an impact however I have to admit that Deunan is pretty badass as the protagonist so my vote goes to her. I wish she would stop trying to fuck his now half robot ex though

Another easy pick for me. Between the three horror stories that were featured in this show, the one with the cat is definitely the most memorable story simply because Kusuriuri upstaged everyone else. There is something about Kusuriuri that I can't figure out. His mysteriousness really is one of his best traits after all. He even got his own show 'Mononoke' after that. Goes to show that my taste is impeccable lol

Ano Hana: Episode 10

Aight I'm all buckled up. Lets get this over with. I hope my emotionally depressed state won't make this post too biased (lol but then again, all my posts have been biased regardless).

And I am greeted by Tsururu saying how much it hurts. That is just... not good for me at all. Not with the condition I'm in now. I can't stop the water works now dammit.

I want to hug everyone in this show (except for Menma and Jintan) because they don't get the opportunity to be loved back by the people they fall in love with. That just hurt as fuck, and even saying that is an understatement.

be strong, Tsururu-chan *pat pat*

Poppo too, who we seemingly see has no problem, begins to open up, saying that these four guys were the only one who lets him in but he was still just a bystander after all. There are just too many shits that are thrown around behind closed door.

Tsururu reminds Yukiatsu of what Menma said over the phone on the day of her death. Like I said before, it was something that they must do for Jintan. This show after all evolve around these two characters.

They celebrate their last night together at Poppo who selfishly throws a party for the DEAD Menma. I think that creeps me out a little but whatever. Everyone shows up but the jovial atmosphere is ruined when Yukiatsu suggests that they re-create the incident of Jintan so adamantly denying his feelings to Menma when they were kids. I said ruined but in truth I adore him for suggesting that. The time has come for everyone to lay out their feelings in the open and get all these bottled up feelings burst just like the firework they planned to ignite tomorrow.

As expected Jintan is not happy at all. Even at this time, he still wants to hide his feelings and makes everyone around him miserable. But he is cornered and since he doesn't have any choice, Jintan finally said those feelings we already know about since episode 1. Still, he tries to run away only to be stopped by Poppo. Jeebus, I thought he's done being a coward.

there, that wasn't so hard now, was it?

Thank you Yukiatsu for clearing things up. At least now everyone can move on, even Tsururu who finally confessed her feelings for Yukiatsu to Anaru. That indefinitely kill all possibility of Yukiatsu and Anaru. Can't say that I am not disappointed but hey, these three kids have gone through a lot because of a DEAD Menma, I can't be too cruel to Tsururu now, can I? Then Tsururu says something that just stabs through my heart.


She's right. There can be no replacement for the one you loved because he/she will forever be part of yourself. Past events what mold us to who we are today so if we replaced someone, that would utterly altered everything. All you can do is opens up your heart to receive new love that comes by in your life. It might be hard but it is not impossible, with time everything will heal, eventually. I said this, but I of all people know it is easier said than done.

Which is why I'm pissed off with Jintan more than ever now. He has the gall to suggest to Menma that she can stay by his side forever, after all the others have gone through to reach this point. Are you still going to say that he's not selfish, Hogart?

bad Jintan, bad Jintan!

Thank goodness Menma isn't as selfish. She still wants to go to heaven so that she can be reborn and talk normally with the others. Heh, that was a great blow to Jintan's ego. He thought that he's all that Menma needs. She gets all these ideas from what Jintan's mom told her before. And with that I think she finally remembers what her wish is. Bass was right, it has something to do with Jintan's mom after all.

Thank goodness too that the others aren't so weak minded and can read Jintan like an open book, especially Yukiatsu so he would definitely not going to let Jintan waste their efforts because that's was all he has in his mind: to stop Menma from going to heaven.

But seriously, I've said before that whoever idea it is (poppo) that the fireworks will send Menma to heaven is just... too farfetched. It can never work otherwise people just have to but tons of firework as ticket to go to heaven. Naturally Menma doesn't disappear when the fireworks were lighted up. She won't disappear as long as she doesn't tell what she wanted to tell Jintan back when they were kids, before she died and/or Jintan apologizing to her which he hasn't done yet.

The next and final episode would be one hell of an episode.

By the way, the kids send out invitation to Menma's family and with that unintentionally help the family to get together again as Menma's mom finally realizes how bad of a mother and a wife she has been to Satoshi and his husband respectively.

p/s: I lol'd when Yukiatsu starts talking to the wig. Oh man, that was priceless.

Ano Hana: Episode 9

To be honest, I don't feel like watching this show anymore after the shit I went through two weeks back. The reason why there is a backlog is because I encountered countless spoilers for episode 9. Good thing that I have short attention span so I have to wait till I forgot what the spoilers were and avoid twitter when people starts talking about episode 10.

Having said that, I still don't feel any excitement and I hope the episodes will be strong enough to rekindle the passion I once has for this show.

Episode 9 picks up where it left of. Apparently Jintan invites the rest of the gang over so that Menma can make them her infamous muffins. I can imagine how creep off the rest of the gang are when they see pots, muffins, paper and pen moving by itself. So I guess they do believe in Menma now.

Thank goodness they too wonder why Menma didn't show up earlier and save them the misunderstanding. But just like the rest of us, they don't have the answer either.

I really want to pat Yukiatsu's head. Looks like he's the only one who screws his head right. While Tsururu comes up with the theory that Menma is around to condemn them, Yukiatsu tells them that he is determine to send Menma to heaven thus preventing Jintan from keeping her to himself. He is speaking the truth.


Though they are all seemingly working together to make the fireworks, Jintan keeps telling himself that it's fine just the way they are because in that way, Menma will forever be by his side. I am actually very mad that he talks to Menma naturally (like everyone can see her) when he's around everyone else. If I was Anaru or Yukiatsu, I will be very tired to keep up with his facade. Not to mention how heart-wrenching it is as he acts as if he doesn't know how Yukiatsu feels towards Menma or how Anaru feels for him.

Damn, writing that makes me wanna cry...

Jintan is a douche self-righteous prick.

*cough* moving on.

They soon find out that it was Menma's mom who is against the firework idea thanks to Yukiatsu and Tsururu approaching her dad. It is interesting nonetheless when Menma's dad refers to her wife as "that woman". Where's the love, hubby? But then again, who would love a psycho.

Yukiatsu is definitely the hero of this episode as he bows to Menma's dad and begs him to allow them to learn about fireworks. He also straight up confesses to Menma's dad that he liked Menma. He even cries. Now, that is some courage you have there, Yukiatsu. Makes me wanna pat you even more, and then some >=3

I still can relate to how Anaru and Yukiatsu are feeling at the moment. They feel envious though they know they aren't supposed to feel that way. They just can' help it.

My heart weeps for them. I wish these two just get together and be happily ever after.

Which is the more reason why I have so much dislike towards Menma and Jintan. These two fucktards have no idea the pain they are causing to the people around them. I so wanna snap that frail neck of hers and this time, I will make sure she's dead DEAD.

I can't wait for them to make the fireworks so that she can finally go to hell.

Which they can make now since Menma's dad has given them his permission. As expected, Jintan face when >>

and then oh shit! I think someone heard my wish. Just like that Yukiatsu and Anaru are getting together. FUCK THIS I'M FUCKING STOKE! I just can't stop smiling as I sit here watching these two. They really are at ease with each other.


But here comes the problem. Now it's Tsururu who is heartbroken. Shit.

At the end of the episode, something happened. I think it is kind of a dejavu to what happened to Menma the day she died. Ano Hana: Episode 8

Since Menma's dad is opposing their idea of learning to make fireworks, they decide to confront Menma's mother while her dad is at work. This is not a good idea in my opinion. I doubt her mom will allow these kids to danger themselves just for her dead daughter's sake. I would be very surprise if she is willing to help them. But then again, she missed her daughter and maybe this makes her feels closer to her.

Things, as expected, didn't go as planned. Menma's mom is actually feeling very bitter that the kids get together again and having fun. She accuses them of neglecting Menma. Hah, I knew this would happened. Since my friend died, we didn't visit his house again, even on festival days because we thought that seeing us will just reminds them of my friend, and what kind of life he would be living if he is still alive. We feel guilty without knowing why we should. That is the kind of can of worm that I refused to open.

After they learned the truth, Yukiatsu suggests they should stop playing around. I think he is right though. This wish of Menma, like I have said before, only concerns Jintan so I think he shouldn't be dragging everyone else with his problem. If only he apologizes, maybe Menma will disappear and leave him for good, but we all know that he doesn't want that to happen. I must admit though that seeing them together is kinda fun but it is also kind of awkward as well because each of them carries pain of their own.

So Jintan makes the decision to grant Menma's wish on his own even though Poppo and Anaru are willing to help him out. I can't help but feeling like he's being selfish again. He said he wants to do it alone but still he causes trouble for everyone else, especially Anaru.

Speaking of Anaru, a standing ovation is in order I think. She boldly confess to Jintan in this episode, even telling him that she felt relieved when Menma died. Despite all that, Jintan still prefers to be a dick.

Anaru/Jintan is no longer my OTP. I think Anaru deserved someone better. Jintan can be a necrophilia all his life for all I care. That fucker... he doesn't even give some thought to what Anaru said to him. His head is full of Menma this and Menma that. That makes me sick. And pissed.

I have no sympathy for a coward like him. He should be crying for her mother!

Speaking of his mother, it is his mother death anniversary so he and his dad go to visit the grave leaving Menma alone. She goes out to town for a walk when she meets Poppo. She heard him saying some shit about them not being together anymore and takes it upon herself to reunite them. She calls up Tsururu and Yukiatsu but of course they can't hear her. I think Menma should just fucking leaves everyone alone already. She causes so much pain to the living. She should get over herself. In fact, even his brother feels resentment towards her. He feels neglected since both his parent don't give much attention to him after the death of his sister. Poor kid.

Anaru, Poppo, Yukiatsu and Tsururu meet at the club house when Jintan walks in on them. Obviously they are there to discuss about the prank calls they received from Jintan's house.

They are all pretty pissed at Jintan and for good reason too. Fuck, when Menma enters that door, I swear I want to strangle her to death but damn it she's already dead!

She goes to her diary and show them some clue. If only she did that earlier then all these misunderstanding could have been avoided. GAH I'M IN RAGE. I never feel like slapping someone so badly as I did now.

Ano Hana: Episode 7

Jintan of all people has the audacity to lecture Anaru about skipping school. Talk about pot calling the kettle black, huh? I am even more surprised at agreeing and even complimenting him afterwards though. I guess that's the power of love? It makes you blind as a bat. The cupid must be on her side too I think when she gets the opportunity of a life time to rape Jintan when she accidentally bumped into her bag trying to stop Jintan from leaving. Fate is a strange thing, doesn't it? *giggles*

But even in anime it wouldn't be that easy to obtain your love. First of all, Jintan has to move on from Menma and starts seeing Anaru as a girl but we all know that won't happen anytime soon. In this episode, it was Poppo who acts as the stopper.

This kinda pissed me off. I have a hard time (well, I made it complicated) with love so at least I want the characters I root for in anime to have it easy when it comes to love. What hope do I have when even in anime, loving someone becomes a hard and painful thing to do? Oh right, I can just watch shoujo, you say but here's the thing... I CAN'T STAND SHOUJO. They are unrealistic. That pissed me off even more. Shit, it is best I stop my rant here.

And thus the story focuses back on Menma when they start reading her diary. I am not sure what they expected. That was a diary of a kid so naturally the content was nothing significant, even more so given her personalities. It help them to reminiscing though like visiting Jintan's mom at the hospital, making rocket, etc. Each memory is a stab to the heart for Jintan. He has to be emo, always. That is his role, after all.

By the way, they decide among themselves that maybe writing letter to God is what Menma wishes for. I doubt it but let just pretend that they are right at the moment, okay?

So goes home to Menma and makes her the ramen that she likes (I am still disturb by the fact that Menma can eat. A ghost is not supposed to do that). Jintan says that he is going to school the next day but he ends up skipping school. He is not the only one though. Anaru, Tsururu and Yukiatsu skip school too as they discuss on how to obtain fireworks. Apparently you need a license to have a firework in Japan. Here in Malaysia, fireworks are banned by the government but we can always get some when the festive season arrived. We lack reinforcement, obviously -__-

To see them having fun with fireworks as kid brings back memories. My cousins and I, plus my friends somehow always have tons of fireworks to play around with during the EID, we play pranks on the neighbor and declare wars with the next village kids. Just like them, we thought we could do anything and everything back then but now, as an adult, those were just distant yet fond memories. I still believe that we can achieve anything that our hearts set out for but if you don't have the mental strength, you will just end up quitting halfway down the road. That is what most of my friends have become. They got married and thus neglected their ambitions. Kinda sad if you think about it, really.


So guess what? I was right. Menma did want them to meet in secret without Jintan's knowledge on the day of she died which is why Yukiatsu doesn't say a word about that to everyone else (Anaru and Poppo). He also poses an important question on Jintan as to why he doesn't confirm the wish with Menma. My answer to that question is obvious so I will refrain from repeating myself here.

Fortunately for these kids, Jintan's dad has a friend who makes fireworks but it cost 200,000 yen. Jeebus that freaking crazy but they are not giving up yet though. Jintan, Anaru and Poppo work part-time to earn the cash. Good thing about this whole thing is, Jintan is spending more time with Anaru then he is with Menma. They are working together and calling each other by nicknames.

However, trust Menma to ruin it. All she sees is Jintan working so hard to grant her wish. She does not see how Poppo and Anaru are working their butts off as well. Urgh moving on... this really pissed me off more than it should >=(

The story takes an unexpected turn though. It looks like it won't be as easy as they thought it would be. The company's director who accidentally Menma's dad, does not allow them to learn how to do the fireworks. Hah, interesting. I wonder whether or not they will continue their quest in episode 8.

Ano Hana: Episode 6

Why do I always feel anxious when it comes to watching my favorite anime? *takes a deep breath*

So finally Jintan decides to give some thoughts about Menma. Basically he is not disagreeing with what Poppo had said in the last episode, about Menma having regrets thus why she still lingers and does not went to heaven. I doubt that he will apologize to Menma anytime soon though. He's too egoistic to do that. He would probably think of something else, or making up excuses to cover up his own wrong doing, even though I think Menma doesn't even care about what he has been worrying and feeling guilty of all these years. I have a feeling that he doesn't really wants to grant Menma wishes because he doesn't want her to disappear and be out of his life again.

To be honest, I can't see one single thing that is so appealing about Menma. She's paper thin, flat and even though some might say that she is naive, I called it being annoying. So yeah, will someone help me out on this one?

As expected, he reverts back to what Menma once told him; of him going to school. Well, at least he will be seeing Anaru more often now, which is good in my book. But guess what, the school is buzzing about something that Anaru has done. Apparently someone from the school saw her going to the love hotel last episode and spread the words. Obviously the school will have to take some action regarding such rumors. Now everyone thinks that she's some slut.

I have to give it to Anaru though. She doesn't say a word in defense. She lets all those fuckers say what they want. She bears it all on her own. *pats her back*

But of course Jintan hears (or in this case, sees) her cries for help and comes to her defense. His method might seems clumsy but to Anaru he must have look like a knight in a shining armor. She totally drags Jintan out of the class for a make out session.

That's a lie.


Since she knows her mom would have been really pissed at her, she decides to stay at Poppo until things calm down a little. She turns the clubhouse upside down cleaning that place up. After that's done, Poppo suggests that they go to Menma's house and see if they can find any clue regarding her wish. He asks Yukiatsu and Tsurumi to join them but they both decline since they are busy preparing for the upcoming exam. Aww, what a shame. Things would have been more fun with them around.

Oh well, that doesn't mean we didn't get to see them. Yukiatsu and Tsurumi sure are close. As they are talking on the train back from school, they both suddenly remember that Menma called everyone (except for Jintan, I assumed) to gather at the secret fort. She said she has something to say (again, I assumed it must have something to do with Jintan. Just a hunch). Heh, a clue for Menma's wish I am sure.

Poppo, Anaru and Jintan manage to get Menma's diary from her mom. Seeing how depressed Menma's mom is, Anaru changes her mind and goes straight home without taking a look at the diary. Jintan who has been acting rather suspicious suggests that they read the diary some other time. Poor Poppo. Yukiatsu is right though, despite how they all change and has move on (as well as they could), they are all still caught up with Jintan's pace of doing things.

Ah the show is flowing nicely until Jintan told Menma what he has been doing with Poppo and Anaru. This angers Menma because by doing that, they make her mom remember her again. Well, duh. Consequently Jintan becomes mad at her for worrying about others. In the middle of yelling at her, he gets a nosebleed and what Menma does after that, makes the nosebleed comes gushing out. I bet he runs away to hide the tent on his pantsu.

He tries to ease the b0nar using Anaru but that kinda back fired.
