Aku no Hana

It has been a while I got this excited for an anime. In fact, I can't remember the last anime that got me all worked out like this. Needless to say, I think Aku no Hana is a very awesome anime. I definitely recommended it to everyone.

A Year Older: Again

It’s that day when I got another level up in life. I’m turning a year older again today. So many things have changed in a course of a year. I read what I wrote on my birthday last year and I almost choked with laughter at how ridiculous everything sounds.

Goodbye 2012 and Hallo 2013

So overall, year 2012 has indeed been kinder to me. I have achieved what I set out to achieve but most importantly, I unexpectedly found love which is easily the highlight of the year for me.

Light Writings: Love II

I need an outlet to express how I feel nowadays. To be honest, things are going too good for me at the moment to the point that I am sort of living in fear for I do not want these extremely good feelings, and the love I have for him to end. If all these are gone tomorrow, there is a big probability that I might lose sanity.

Light Writings: Crush II

Welp, looks like we are having this conversation again after so many years. Well 2 years and 3 months to be exact. The last time I wrote about my crush, I was in a different state of mind where I know it can be nothing more than just that, a crush.

First Impression: Medaka Box

I am in the process of eliminating all possible shitty anime from Spring season. Upotte!! has already been cut down. However, I was proven wrong about my initial judgment for Shirokuma Cafe. Now let see where does Medaka Box stands. Will it remain in the anishit list or get a promotion?

I have got this sinking feeling that it would be the former. I saw that this show is categorized as ecchi among many things. Urgh, I seriously don't look forward to this but lets get this done and over with.

Medaka Box is about Medaka, a slut voluptuous first year who becomes a Student Council President because she sleeps around is just that awesome at everything. She promised to attend to any suggestions/challenges/etc that are inserted in the Student Council Suggestion Box. She forces her childhood friend Zenkichi to help her out (while only in bra and underwear - like I said, a slut). Of course he can't say no when she asked while wearing nothing but undergarments!

The first mission was to restore the kendo dojo which she did single handedly. I wasn't even paying attention to the shit. I just can't. It was too much cock and bull.

After 16 minutes, I couldn't take it anymore. And thus this show will be included in my anishit list like I have predicted it would.Everything about it is mediocre from the arts and animation to the OP song as well as the overall plot and story.

I'm done.

Too bad I didn't get the chance to know Kumagawa Misogi

First Impression: Dantalian no Shoka

Is it just me or is the first few seconds of Dantalian no Shoka sounds like a woman having sex? Turns out, it wasn't even a woman but a small boy *facepalm*

Dantalian no Shoka is a place who-the-hell-knows somewhere in the universe or in your imagination. That's where the episode started which is fitting I guess otherwise the explanation for it will drag on forever. It's also where the small version of our protagonist, Hugh Anthony Disward, met Dalian for the first time.

(c) G Yuusuke

Fast forward a few years, Huey is all grown up and is a fine good looking young man. One day he received a letter of his dead grandfather who was a book-lover. In order for him to inherit the place, he has to take responsibility of Dantalian no Shoka. To be honest, I envy him. I wish someone would leave me a mansion full of books as well. That would be heaven on earth and I don't have to step out of the house ever again. Anyhoo, all the books in the mansion were moved to the basement where he once again meet Dalian, who his grandfather wants him to take care of.

Huey has no recollection of Dantalian no Shoka and he's pretty skeptical when Dalian tells him what it could mean. He is not a believer of fairy tale at all. Not even when Dalian told him that Conrad killed his grandfather for he believed that his grandfather was killed by a burglar. Conrad stole a Phantom Book and the content of that book came to life and murdered the household.

I was pretty surprised at how sharp and fluid the animation is when the characters from the book appeared and started attacking Huey and Dalian. I guess I am underestimating Gainax too much. Thank goodness that Huey is somewhat has skill with gun so that he can saved both of their asses but not from dragon though. This is when Dalian shows her true self.

The mysterious key that Huey has with him can open the lock on Dalian's chest. Since Dalian acknowledge him as the keykeeper, he gets to use the power of Dantalian no Shoka. For every problem, it will produce a genuine grimoire for Huey to read which will destroy the thus solved the problem.

Watching Dantalian no Shoka is kinda dejavu. This show reminds me of the book Inkheart (and it's series) where characters come to the real world and will most definitely create havoc. I love that book. I can't say the same thing about this show though. I need to watch a few more episodes before I made up my mind.

First Impression: Houkago no Pleiades

I was wondering about this show since it came out pretty late compared to the other Winter shows. The reason why I am looking forward for this one simply because of the collaboration with Subaru. And of course, this one is produced by Gainax. After what they came up last season, despite myself, I want to see what else they can offer us fans. More shitty goodness? I hope so.

You expected greatness, yes?

First of all, this show is not a TV show. It is an ONA. The length of the episode is roughly around 6 minutes or so. Basically I have no reason NOT to watch this one except that from the poster it doesn't really the type of anime I normally watch. So I'm going to give it a benefit of a doubt. Let's begin.

It's hard to conjure up opinions just based on the 6 minute episode without being biased but who cares anyway, right? So Subaru is pretty happy I guess and it must be one of the reasons why they signed up with Gainax: the protagonist, seemingly a blockhead who likes stars, is named Subaru. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Instead, you got this >>

The story for the first and second episode goes like this: Subaru wants to go to the reservation deck at her school but ended up in a place that's definitely NOT the school with butterflies, lush green gardens and a seemingly sick boy named Minato. He's the bad guy but he's endearing soI don't mind at all. Then there's the witch club or something that consists of 4 other girls, One of them is Minato's friend Aoi. The president of the club is a flubber and he (apparent he's a male, how they can tell I don't know for sure. I see tentacles but no dick) has chosen Minato to be the latest member of the club because he sensed lots of power in her. They rode in highly advance broom with engine and gathered the stars, or they called it engine shards (again, WTF?) so the president can go back to his planet. As you can probably tell by now, the story is not the best out there. It was pretty weak sauce but it's only 6 minutes per episode so I think I can tolerate this much.

I wish they make up for the lack of good story with exceptional characters. Unfortunately, they did not so it kinda frustrating because we all know that Gainax can come up with such character after Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt.

I don't feel like the art and animation are consistent with this show. I noticed some things that makes me goes "that looks good" or "the animation is very slick" but it weren't often enough. During the dull moments of the show, the animation was average. So was the character designs. They all looked boring and the outfits were stupid. I guess they are targeting the younger audience for this one which makes me wonder, why the hell is Subaru involved then? O_o

I don't think there's an OP or ED, only BGM which was pretty common for this type of show. But I see that there are several artists involved for the theme song performance. That makes me wonder whether I was not paying attention or it will be around for the upcoming episodes. I didn't bother to watch it again because that would be a waste of time. Nothing stands out about the seiyuu but that's because there's no male seiyuu and I didn't give a shit about the female seiyuus. They all sounded the same to me.

I'm not sure how many episodes there will be. I can't say that I look forward to see the rest of the episodes but I'm not going to abandon this show either because I want to see what Subaru will bring to the table instead of just giving Gainax the permission to use their name for the main character. This show is lacking in so many areas and I don't think it will improve anytime soon since they have set up everything to be so.

I am not going to recommend this to anyone. It's not bad. It's not good either.

First Impression: Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt

I've seen a lot of first thoughts in the anime blogsphere about this anime. Since I want to avoid spoilers, I didn't check them out. So this anime has potential to be either really good are just really bad otherwise people won't be raging about it like they did.

Many have compared this to Power Puff Girls and for good reason. Allowed me to say that I really don't like the art and animation. It might be an eye candy with all those vibrant colors and what not but my dislike stems from the fact that this is too westernized. If I want to see something like this, I just have to switch on the Cartoon Network. I hope that in the coming future, there will be no more emulating the western cartoon theme. I like anime because of the Japanese quality to it. This is just... *rejects*

But lets not get too negative with my review. I have only seen the first 5 minutes of the episode after all. Though let me make it clear that every sound that I heard so far really annoyed me to hell. Yes, even the seiyuus. Especially the seiyuus. The dog, Chuck, in particular really gets on my nerves. The sound effects too are just too over-the-top. I understand why they intentionally did that but it will just keep me irritated from start to finish. What the hell is with the OP anyway? Panty stocking panty stocking chant? *facepalm*

The ED on the other hand is good, but yet again, very westernized.

Now lets talk about what this show is all about. I don't even know where the fuck to begin. I feel like the show just insulted my intelligent. Their first episode is about a poop monster? Way to market your product. Anyway, Panty and Stocking are pretty much like Blossom, Bubble and Buttercup. They have superpower or something. But they aren't made from sugar, spice and everything nice. In fact, it's on the contrary. Panty is a whore and Stocking who is a Gothic chic have an obsession with sugar. They live with Garterbelt, a black priest who has the same role as the Professor in Power Puff Girls. I assumed every week they will have a different monster/enemy pop up. The girls mission is to collect the Heaven coin. I am still not clear for what but y guess is since they are both pretty much bad girls, they are buying their way to the heaven. I wonder if this show will have a Mojo Jojo too. Yep, it feels like this is a parody of that ever so popular American show for kids. But instead of for kids, I think this show targeted to the more matured audience.

See what I mean?

I guess all those virgin otakus and lolicon out there will fap every time Panty and Stocking transform. They pretty much did a pole dancing with really sexually arousing movements. Panty by the way, will fight the enemy panty-less. Why? Because she will take off her pantsu and turned it into a pistol. Same goes to Stocking but instead of pantsu, she used, you guessed it, stocking hence their names. Like I said, I feel like I have been insulted.

Each story last around 15 minutes or so which mean in one episode there will be two different stories. Sounds familiar? This is how the western dudes and duddettes used to do it too.

Despite the rant, Panty and Stocking are interesting characters. Panty is so morally unethical. She fucked every good looking guys she laid her eyes on and pretty much ride them until they are spent. She cursed a lot and fuck is probably her favorite words, unsurprisingly. Stocking on the other hand is more calm and collected. Her weapon is a sword so that naturally have me rooted for her.

All I can say is Gainax definitely gives everything they got, the bad and the good. You can either love this or hate it. Either way Gainax has managed to make people talking about how ridiculously outlandish this show is. I am not sure whether or not I want to see more of it though. It will probably depends on whether or not I want a mindfuck. That's not really a bad thing.

First Impression: Hanamaru Youchien

Look at the above picture and tell me what is wrong with the society nowadays. Heh.

I remember making a comment about this show when I first saw the poster in Chartfag's Winter chart and I have actually secretly waiting to see this, just to see how fucked up it can be. I already saw how fucked up elementary school girls can be in Kodomo no Jikan. Now they are trying new height (or should I say bottomless pit) with Hanamaru Kindergarten.

And I actually chuckled when I saw the scene above especially when I realized that she might still be wearing a diaper. Clearly the girl is influenced by the television show that she watched on TV. Kinda says a lot doesn't it? ^__^

This is Tsuchida the pedophile kindergarten teacher

Obviously he has different agenda when he applied for the teacher position but that besides the point. He's very clumsy with words so that made him kinda stupidly funny I guess. He is the only male teacher in that school so I take it that he is also a pimp.

the sex fiend, the ice queen and the silent predator

Now lets meet the runts. You have met Anzu earlier. The middle runt is Hiiragi who kinda high and mighty a bit and she does not need a freaking mouth to speak. How fucking cool is that?! And the last one is Koume who speaks but no voice comes out. I is yet to confirm whether or not she is mute and didn't know it.

The episode is pretty packed in my opinion. They have the entrance ceremony for the runts and Anzu did a stunt by climbing up the tree to save Kamoe's ribbon. Then Tsuchida found out that Anzu's mom is actually his high school senior. She got married to her teacher. We also get to see a glimpse of others' family but not in great details. At the end of the episode, Anzu made a vow to be Tsuchida's bride and got the approval from her mom >_>

And then you wonder how did your daughter becomes a prostitute *shakes my head*

Of course Tsuchida has to pretend like he is against the idea...

Said that like you mean it, pedo! Not with a smile on your face!

I stand corrected. Looks like Anzu's mom is the one responsible for corrupting her mind, not the TV >_>

The story line is blah, almost non-existent maybe. The art is okay. The runts look cute if they aren't trying so hard to be an adult. If I am 7 years old I might like the OP and ED but since I am definitely not...

Besides the obvious jab, I actually has nothing bad to say about this anime. I do realize it wasn't made for anime fan such as myself because my thing is anything gore, bloody and carnage but I guess it does cater to the rest of the anime fandom who like this sort of thingy (God has mercy on them :P).
