Aku no Hana

It has been a while I got this excited for an anime. In fact, I can't remember the last anime that got me all worked out like this. Needless to say, I think Aku no Hana is a very awesome anime. I definitely recommended it to everyone.

A Year Older: Again

It’s that day when I got another level up in life. I’m turning a year older again today. So many things have changed in a course of a year. I read what I wrote on my birthday last year and I almost choked with laughter at how ridiculous everything sounds.

Goodbye 2012 and Hallo 2013

So overall, year 2012 has indeed been kinder to me. I have achieved what I set out to achieve but most importantly, I unexpectedly found love which is easily the highlight of the year for me.

Light Writings: Love II

I need an outlet to express how I feel nowadays. To be honest, things are going too good for me at the moment to the point that I am sort of living in fear for I do not want these extremely good feelings, and the love I have for him to end. If all these are gone tomorrow, there is a big probability that I might lose sanity.

Light Writings: Crush II

Welp, looks like we are having this conversation again after so many years. Well 2 years and 3 months to be exact. The last time I wrote about my crush, I was in a different state of mind where I know it can be nothing more than just that, a crush.

First Impression: Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou

My first impression when I first saw the synopsis was this: too much going on. The plot is everywhere since it seemed like they want to include everything in it. The second episode is already out when I'm writing this but I haven't seen anyone mention anything about this show. I have a sinking feeling that this is going to be quite an unpleasant.

(c) Nabeshima Tetsuhiro
A kid who loves book got murdered trying to save his favorite author. He was reborn as a dog and the author can somewhat read his mind so she adopted him but threatened to kill him every chance she get. I guess the rest of the plot will be about them trying to find the murderer and at the same time solving some mystery shit.

The animation, the character designs, the characters, the OP/ED and seiyuus were all average. The only thing that stands out, in my opinion, is Takahiro Sakurai as the dog's seiyuu. He did quite a good job at it otherwise the show will be flat as Natsuno's chest.

I don't think I'll be watching this week after week. I'll just save this for whenever.

First Impression: Ozma

This show started even before the Spring season official release was out but it is only now that I feel like watching it. That is just me being lazy or caught up with work and life in general. I wasn’t excited at all about Ozuma but I figured I need to be fair and see what it is all about before I draw my own conclusion.

I was damn excited when I heard the opening song because I immediately recognized that it is a song from FT Island, my favorite Korean band. If I had known that they sang the OP, I would have checked this show out sooner.

Unfortunately though, the show itself was crappy. The art really turned me off. It is too shoujoish for me. It’s the year 2012 for fuck sake, who draws like that anymore? The animation too was below average. The perspective was off and it wasn’t smooth at all. Mediocre is probably the right word to describe it.

As for the story, I can’t really tell what it was all about. It is just sand after sand of shit. I dropped the show before it hits the 7 minutes mark. If they phailed to grab my attention or pique my interest in the first 7 minutes, I doubt they could do it at all. First impression is pretty important after all.

But I did know that the show is named after a creature that lives under the sands. It was pretty stupid really, especially when I saw the vehicles they were on. For a second there, I thought I was watching an animated Star Wars, if you know what I mean.

There’s only one good thing about this show and that’s the OP. That’s not good enough reason to suffer through this. It is definitely not worthy of my time.

And so this show is being dumped into the anishit list. I refused to be Leijitimize!

First Impression: Last Exile ~Fam, The Silver Wing~

Last Exile is in my anime show with potential list for this Fall and since I'm late a few days, I have seen how the aniblogsphere absolutely been raving for this show. A good sign indeed. The time has cometh for me to see what the hype is all about.

It takes a while for the story makes sense to me since I have not watched the original (thouggh I bought the DVD many moons ago Orz) but I really don't mind that much because the show is brilliant with the pacing. Fam is one of the Sky Pirates who always seek to hit the First Harpoon. According to the rules, whoever hits the target first will have the right to decide on how to proceed with the assault of taking over the target ships. On the day where Turan Kingdom is supposed to sign a peace treaty with Ades Federation, Fam and her Sky Pirates crew become a hero when they save the two princess of Turan from the Ades Federation who betrays them as they declared war upon Turan Kingdom.

Ah why do bad guys look so delicious? I wanna tap Hafez's ass so badly.

I love the fact that this show isn't just about Fam, but how they come up with strategies to catch those Skyships. It definitely gets me caught up in the moment and I find myself just as excited as Fam's ship crew when she sends out that signal flares. I wanna be a Sky Pirate too!

Needless to say I am very impressed with the animation, and not just with the 3D aircraft. I'm absolutely sold. Hand it over to Gonzo for flying airships. Maybe it's my double standard for the studio, but I am pretty surprised to see Gonzo coming up with something that is fresh. All those places in the show are believable and nicely done. They are definitely serious this time after since their comeback with Nyanpire: The Animation. Gone are the day of Blassreiter heh.

I have seen some very great improvement in female protagonists this season. I usually has absolutely no love for them because they are either stupid, moe or stupid. But things have changed for the better. They are more capable of taking care of themselves with an attitude, looks and intelligence that should make Paris Hilton envious. Just in this show alone, I'm awestruck by both Fam, Dio and Sophia. I'm loving it.

This show has no fault as of yet, probably because i haven' seen the original so I'm less critical about it. Last Exile definitely moves up a rank in my list. Now it's a much watch.

For all of those who are in Asia, you can watch Last Exile ~Fam, The Silver Wing~ same day as Japan on Animax starting October 15, every Saturday at 8pm! You can learn more about it here: http://www.animax-asia.com/shows/lastexile. Since I learned that they are showing this in 3D in Japan, I am excited to watch it on Animax and try it out because I have a specialized 3D TV! Thank you, technology ^__^

Nyanpire the Animation

Surprisingly, I want to thank Gonzo for bringing Nyanpire the Animation, something that I thought I would never say regarding this show. After 2 years break, Gonzo came back with such a delightful anime. Having said that, I was pretty skeptical about this show at first for several reasons.

Reason number one why I was skeptical was because of the Nyan Cat phenomenon. I'm one of the minority who doesn't get what the hype with the looping gif of animated cat with a cherry Pop-Tart was all about. At the moment this episode was first aired, the interwebz was buzzing with the addiction for Nyan Cat and I thought Gonzo was just taking the shortcut to put money in the bag. Though they featured the family of feline, I am glad that it turned out to be quite different, being that these cats actually have a personality.

Reason number two is because this show's strongest point is the cuteness of Nyanpire. I was definitely not a fan at first but as the show progressed, it seems like even I can't deny the cuteness.

Have you seen the ending song? That in itself is the third reason as to why I was skeptical. Those who know me would have known that something like that does nothing but turn me off. Ami is too old to act cute like that in my opinion. I skipped the ending after the first episode. It was too moe for me.

I just lost my appetite

As expected from a 3 minutes show, there are not plots that link one episode to the other. All 12 episodes are stand alone episodes and can be enjoyed with side-dish. Each episode pretty much centered around Nyanpire dealing with his friends:
  1. Nyanpire - A cat who turned vampire when he got blood from a vampire to save him from the brink of death. He's pretty dumb and love anything that is blood red because it reminds him of... well, blood. He's pretty useless too.
  2. Meowsamune - A soldier cat who is in love with Nyanpire. He has some issues since Nyanpire is also a male but love conquers all. He is so dedicated when it comes to Nyanpire. Often the subject of Nyantenshi's bullying.
  3. Chachamaru - Nyanpire adopted brother who is more matured than Nyanpire despite the difference in stature.
  4. Vlady and Vampy - two bats who received the same fate as Nyanpire. They are quite mischievous.
  5. Misaki - The person who adopted Nyanpire and Chachamaru.
  6. Nyantenshi - A fallen angel that was banished from heaven because he banged God's wife. He loves to bully and reminds me of Date Masamune

My favorite cat has to be Nyantenshi for two reasons. His seiyuu is Jun Fukuyama and his personality itself is just right up my alley. I have a soft spot for bad and cunning guys, you see. Hats off to Noriaki Sugiyama as well. I guess this show shows his versatility. From Ishida Uryuu and Uchiha Sasuke to Meowmune? Awesome. Now I keep on imagining Uchiha with cat ears and tails =3

Maybe I was able to enjoy this show as much as I do because it's only 3 minutes long, and the fact that I skipped the ending. But yeah, Nyanpire the Animation is nothing brilliant or lace with thought provoking plot but the more I get to know the character the more I was taken in by it's charm. It is that simplicity that managed to bring a smile to my face. Or maybe I was just easy to please since I'm a character driven person after all.

Like I used to say, I like it when a show proved me wrong. It just mean that they have exceeded my expectations. Gonzo managed to do just that :)
