First Impression: Hakkenden: Touhou Hakken Ibun

I watched this when it was first came out. During that time, I was busy as fuck so I didn't have to write a proper first impression post. I regretted not writing one since I have to rewatch this in order to remember what was it all about.

 This show is about Shino and Sousuke, both has the power to control/be animal who lives as monk at some mountains. The Church are interested in them and knew that they can find the gems that they wanted so it was their mission to retrieve those gems or death by the Church law. Oh they also need to protect their sister Hamaji (not by blood) from being used.

Yeah, the plot is fucked up too.

There's really nothing interesting that worth mentioning about this show so I think I have finally decided to drop this shit. It's far too shoujo-ish for me.

First Impression: Yurumates 3D

I had to go back and read my review for Yurumates OVA that I watched many moons ago. I did remember enjoying the show at that time though so naturally I hope the good feelings will continue with this TV show as well.


Unlike the OVA however, the TV show only last for 3 minutes (including OP!) for each episode which is too short for me but given my situation, I guess it was good news. I know I can spare at least 3 minutes for anime watching time.

The TV show starts with introductions of the characters. I appreciate it since it helps me jog my memory of the OVA but it all seems too familiar. Did they pretty much repeat the whole thing and divided the 35 minutes OVA into little segments of 3 minutes episodes? I sure hope not!

Well, there's nothing much to say about a 3 minutes show, is there? You could read my review for the OVA since what I think of the arts/seiyuu/animation still stands.

If there is a cicada episode in between this TV shows, then I know for sure that they really just divided the OVA into segments and that will disappoint me greatly.

Until then, I'll enjoy this while I can :)

First Impression: Mayo Chiki

I made a mistake of searching the fanarts for this post before I watch the episode. One look at those fanarts, it reminds me of what I read in the synopsis and thus I am already biased about it and not in a good way too >_>

Anyhoo, let's just get this done and over with, shall we?

Easier said than done. 2 minutes and 55 seconds in, I am already pissed off with everything I saw because it is just too damn predictable. Let see... we have Kinjirou, a fucking doormat who is the only guy in the school who is not affected by Kanade. Kanade is the rich bitch who has a female butler pretending to be a guy, and she brings her everywhere, even at school. Kinjirou will discovers Subaru's little secret by accident and for the first few episodes there will be riot before these two eventually fall in love.

But that would be too straightforward you say? How about the people around Kinjirou think that he is gay because he doesn't talk to girls (when in truth, he's traumatized by the rigorous training his sister put him up for every morning). So when he does get close to Subaru, they confirm the rumor is indeed true and he fights hard not to fall for Subaru because of that but will only succumb to love in the end.

Urgh, cliche as fuck.

I would watch this if Kinjirou falls for Kanade instead. That would at least be a tad unpredictable and more fun to watch. Or they can have a threesome. I'm fine with that as well.

And that accident that I talked about earlier, apparently it first happens in the boys bathroom. Who the fuck take a shit without locking the door? Subaru the dumpshit does! FUCK I'M RAGING!

The fact that Kinjirou wears a megane can't even makes me like this shit even for a second.

Fuck this. I'm quitting this shit at 6 minutes and 37 seconds.

First Impression: Otome Youkai Zakuro

Otome Youkai Zakuro is about romance between the fox spirit girls and the army guys who was sent to work with them at the Ministry of Spirit Affairs. Heh but it doesn't as easy and romantic as it sounds. And the story is not all about them finding romance, they have to fight youkai monsters as well as trying to bridge the gap between human and youkai.

First of all, there is Zakuro who is actually the female who leads the house of the spirits. She's very stubborn and does not want to help the human. Then there's Agemaki who looks charming and capable but is totally useless when dealing with youkai. However Zakuro is still a girl so obviously she will fall for Agemaki's charm until she found out the truth. But yeah, it was kinda funny every time Agemaki has to face Zakuro or the Youkai. I love the chemistry between these two. In fact I love the chemistry between Hotaru and Riken too. They are like the shy couple that you can help but root for. Then there are the twin Bonbori and Hoozuki who have taken a liking with their short partner who is imo the most annoying character in the show, Ganryuu. Lucky bastard.


The overall art and animation is very pretty. Compared to Bakuman, it looks like this one is the golden project for JC Staff. It is definitely up to their standard at least. I love the colors in it. They are so vibrant and lively. The character designs can be a little unique I guess but I'm not complaining. They were not paying too much attention to the side/background characters too. They are average at best. Oh well, Agemaki does looks like a bishie and the fox girls all have their own charming character traits.

At first I though the OP is hauntingly beautiful. It is, imo, so uniquely Japanese so I can't help but like it a lot. But then they really got into the real OP and my hope crushed. It was very bouncy and dancy, kinda like DRR song. Later did I found out that the first song I heard was actually Hotaru, Hoozuki and Bonbori singing when Zakuro fights. The ED on the other hand is too girly for my taste but it isn't bad at all if you are into girly songs. Sorry to say that the voices of the characters do not sound familiar to me at all which mean I dunno who they are. Having said that, they did a good job with the characters and represent them well.

This show is directed by Chiaki Kon. He kinda has that versatility I guess, although I really don't like Junjou Romantica. I think that was his worst achievements ever. But he did well with Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and Umineko. So far this show is definitely on my watch list. He must have done something right otherwise I won't even be bothered with something like this .

So needless to say I enjoy this one a lot. I'll definitely keep my eyes on this show. Sometimes, I am just a hopeless romantic :P

First Impression: To Aru Majutsu no Index II

I recently completed the first season just so I can remember some of the details from season one. This is another one of the fall anime that I look forward to see the most. I missed Misaka and even the whiny Touma.

Yes, Touma is very whiny for a male protagonist. The start of season 2, and he already whines about his unfinished homework. But I would complained a lot too if I have to live under one roof with Index who unfortunately is still as annoying as ever. Not to mention that she brings all sorts of trouble with her. She's bad luck. I like the fact that Touma acted like a normal high school student for once who worried about his homework and such.

In this episode, she is already being targeted by the enemy who used wind as his weapon. He wanted a volume of book from her memory. His reason? To save her beloved. Aww.... WHAT?! TOO FUCKING CLICHE!

Thank goodness Misaka is in this episode too, being all tsundere with Touma. I couldn't help but giggle at her. That's how I am with my boyfriend too. She makes all Index episodes OK whenever she's in it.

I also see familiar faces at the end of the episode, setting up for bigger plots, like how will he face the midget tomorrow without his homework *chuckles*

Oh btw, I like the OP but the ED? Not so much. Also, my initial thoughts about the characters remain as it is. I can't wait for Accelerator to make his comeback. And more Masaka/Touma please. GIMME MORE DETONATION!

First Impression: Bakuman

Bakuman is one of the anime that I really want to check out. I read the manga but kinda dropped it after a while. Although the plot is awesome and I love Takagi, I was at the point in my life where I can't handle anything that has romance in it. I was okay with Takagi's relationship but when it comes to Mashiro and Azuki, that was too much. So I dropped it, with an intention of picking it up again when I'm less of an emotional tard. Unfortunately life kinda get the better of me and I never got the chance to read it again.

So I was very happy when I learned that they are going to adapt Bakuman into an anime. It would save me a lot of times actually. Thank you JC Staff.

Bakuman is about Mashiro who has quite the talent in drawings. He is pretty much kinda gave up on his dream and almost gave up on the love of his life too though. This of course changed when Takagi approached and asked him to be his partner. Takagi got the brain and all but he can't draw even if his life depended on it. Mashiro, of course, declined Takagi's proposal right away. His uncle was a mangaka so he knows how one would struggle to make a living as a mangaka. It's either you made it or you don't. Since his uncle passed away as an unsuccessful, he thought being a mangaka can't secure you a stable future.

But Takagi won't give up just because Mashiro said no. This is why I love him. And in all honesty, the only reason I like Bakuman in the first place is because of Takagi. He has that personality that I want to jump and molest. He said he doesn't have the look but I beg to differ. Oh and that megane. I have a fetish for megane...

Anyway Takagi take matters into his own hands and pretty much playing the match maker for Mashiro and Azuki. Although he's man that talks a lot, his action was louder too. And he knows exactly what he wants and determined to get it no matter what. Very admirable.

Thanks to Takagi, both Mashiro and Azuki got the courage to confess to each other. Mashiro even proposed to her and surprisingly she said yes though they should never meet again until both of them are successful (LOL sounds pretty much like my story. ROFL). Like I said, if it wasn't for Takagi, Mashiro will be a loser and wallowing in self-pity for the rest of his life.

I have covered about Takagi. Lets talk about Mashiro a bit. I think he's a wuzz. He just phailed to appeal to me both in the manga and in the anime. I blame it on personality or could it be that I pretty much has a clear idea of what kind of character that I will consider likeable. Hmm, maybe I'll write a post about it. Then there's Azuki, the timid shy girl. The kind of girl that I don't usually get along well with. The one thing that I like about her is that she's very determined and does not give up easily. Next week we are going to meet her best friends who I really like when I read the manga. So far that's the main four characters for these first couple of episodes. Then we will have a more interesting character who I really look forward to.

Aight the first OP kinda WTF? I thought I was being punk'd. LOL then I remember that it's from the manga that Mashiro's uncle did. The real OP came after that. I am going to reserved my opinion until I have heard it a few times. The ED sounds better than the OP though. It is catchy and it just has that certain quality that will definitely grow on me. As for the seiyuu, Mashiro just sounds so familiar because his seiyuu, Atsushi Abe, does Touma. Satoshi Hino did a good job with Takagi.Takagi is some one with a lot of expression and so far I think Satoshi kinda nailed those parts.

The art was meh at best. Because I just completed To Aru Majutsu no Index, which was also produced by JC Staff, I immediately compared these two shows. Bakuman is so below the par and it kinda sad and irony if you think about it since this story is about manga and anime but they are not excelling in the art department at all. Having said that, they did get the character designs right to a T. I was glad that Takagi looks like Takagi.

In terms of enjoyment, it was so-so. I wasn't that excited but not really bored by it either. I will continue to watch this and when it comes to the part where I dropped the manga, then I know I'll be hooked.

Cat Shit One

I took a peek at this ONA when I first downloaded it a week ago. I was blown away. So I really looking forward to watch this pilot episode of Cat Shit One. By the way, who came up with the title I wonder...

The story is about 2 mercenaries, Packy and Botasky, both, as you can see, are fuzzy bunnies. But don't let their appearance deceived you. They are pretty hardcore with the guns. Imagine fuzzy cuteness on a killing spree. That's what they are. In this case, it was the camels who were unfortunate enough to be their enemy.

This episode is pretty much about them rescuing the hostages from the camel. Since they both can't wait for back-up, they went and rescued them by themselves. 2 fuzzy bunnies against at least a hundred camels and survived. It was intense.

One of the most memorable moment for me was when Botasky came back to help Packy out. The first bullet that he shot went through the camel's head in slow motion. That was some really good animation there. Kudos for the animation team and the director I guess. I was blown away, again, by the sheer awesomeness of this show. I would have print screen the moment but you have to watch it in animation to truly get what I mean.

If only there are blood...

Botasky got to be my favorite bunny in this whole wide world. He might appeared cowardly at first but he redeemed himself in the span of 20 minutes of the show. If it wasn't for Botasky, Packy would have been a roasted bunny for dinner.

The sound effects are top notch. If you are not in a war, well, you will feel like you are in one. The seiyuus for both Botasky and Packy are perfect in my opinion. The personality that they gave the characters made them easy to relate to and real. The ED sounds familiar and even though it is an instrumental, I still like it a lot.

Needless to say, Cat Shit One is the most enjoyable show I have ever watch this season. Maybe because they are in 3D but I would like to think it was because of the fuzzy animals killing people greatness. Having said that, if these characters are human, I would probably not going to watch this show.

First Impression: Hanamaru Youchien

Look at the above picture and tell me what is wrong with the society nowadays. Heh.

I remember making a comment about this show when I first saw the poster in Chartfag's Winter chart and I have actually secretly waiting to see this, just to see how fucked up it can be. I already saw how fucked up elementary school girls can be in Kodomo no Jikan. Now they are trying new height (or should I say bottomless pit) with Hanamaru Kindergarten.

And I actually chuckled when I saw the scene above especially when I realized that she might still be wearing a diaper. Clearly the girl is influenced by the television show that she watched on TV. Kinda says a lot doesn't it? ^__^

Obviously he has different agenda when he applied for the teacher position but that besides the point. He's very clumsy with words so that made him kinda stupidly funny I guess. He is the only male teacher in that school so I take it that he is also a pimp.

Now lets meet the runts. You have met Anzu earlier. The middle runt is Hiiragi who kinda high and mighty a bit and she does not need a freaking mouth to speak. How fucking cool is that?! And the last one is Koume who speaks but no voice comes out. I is yet to confirm whether or not she is mute and didn't know it.

The episode is pretty packed in my opinion. They have the entrance ceremony for the runts and Anzu did a stunt by climbing up the tree to save Kamoe's ribbon. Then Tsuchida found out that Anzu's mom is actually his high school senior. She got married to her teacher. We also get to see a glimpse of others' family but not in great details. At the end of the episode, Anzu made a vow to be Tsuchida's bride and got the approval from her mom >_>

And then you wonder how did your daughter becomes a prostitute *shakes my head*

Of course Tsuchida has to pretend like he is against the idea...

Said that like you mean it, pedo! Not with a smile on your face!

I stand corrected. Looks like Anzu's mom is the one responsible for corrupting her mind, not the TV >_>

The story line is blah, almost non-existent maybe. The art is okay. The runts look cute if they aren't trying so hard to be an adult. If I am 7 years old I might like the OP and ED but since I am definitely not...

Besides the obvious jab, I actually has nothing bad to say about this anime. I do realize it wasn't made for anime fan such as myself because my thing is anything gore, bloody and carnage but I guess it does cater to the rest of the anime fandom who like this sort of thingy (God has mercy on them :P).

Yurumates

Yurumates (pronounced yuru-mates as mate in Halo thar mate!) is a series of unrelated shorts stories compiled in a 35 minutes or so OVA. It is simple, enjoyable and funny with the cast of four simple and standard archetype characters: Yurume, Sae, Kumi and Matsukichi. It encompassed everyday life storyline; from surviving the hot/cold to eat hotpot together with everything else in between. All these happened in a rundown low rent building where these four struggling students live. It may sound like you have seen all these jokes before but that does not mean that it is less funny.

The story, as you would have predicted from the title evolved around Yurume, the country girl who is adjusting the life in the big city. Then you get introduced to Sae and Kumi who constantly tease Yurume for her naivety. I like Kumi a lot because one look at her, you would think that she is an airhead but the fact is she is more than meets the eyes. She also has a dark sense of humor compared to Sae. Matsukichi is the only male in the building and it is a nice change to see a non-perverted male character in a cast of women. He often comes in a tad too late, or a tad too early.

I also enjoy the cicada segment a lot. It is funny on its own.

Like everything else, the art is simple too. It fits rather well with the whole theme of the OVA in my opinion. They are also have that chibi like quality about them. The seiyuu performance managed to bring out the characters personalities and with the simplicity of the animation and the story, having strong voice performances was critical to its success. As for the ED, it is pretty catchy and adorable.

Overall, Yurumates is a really cute, fun and simple show. Like crazyanimegyrl who influenced me to watched this, I am glad that Frostii fansub picked it up. It definitely deserved to get more attention (hence why I am writing this review).

If you have zero sense of humor and personality, it is best you avoid it, since you are fucked up and wouldn't appreciate this show anyway.
