Aku no Hana

It has been a while I got this excited for an anime. In fact, I can't remember the last anime that got me all worked out like this. Needless to say, I think Aku no Hana is a very awesome anime. I definitely recommended it to everyone.

A Year Older: Again

It’s that day when I got another level up in life. I’m turning a year older again today. So many things have changed in a course of a year. I read what I wrote on my birthday last year and I almost choked with laughter at how ridiculous everything sounds.

Goodbye 2012 and Hallo 2013

So overall, year 2012 has indeed been kinder to me. I have achieved what I set out to achieve but most importantly, I unexpectedly found love which is easily the highlight of the year for me.

Light Writings: Love II

I need an outlet to express how I feel nowadays. To be honest, things are going too good for me at the moment to the point that I am sort of living in fear for I do not want these extremely good feelings, and the love I have for him to end. If all these are gone tomorrow, there is a big probability that I might lose sanity.

Light Writings: Crush II

Welp, looks like we are having this conversation again after so many years. Well 2 years and 3 months to be exact. The last time I wrote about my crush, I was in a different state of mind where I know it can be nothing more than just that, a crush.

What kind of anime fan am I?

This is supposedly the second part of "About me" section. I have already described - or at least my friends did - how/who am I in person. I am sure you are an intelligent person to read between the lines. The conclusion is: I'm awesome as fuck. Heh, problem?

That section doesn't actually describe me as an anime fan though. So here I am making an attempt to figure out exactly that.

So what kind of anime fan am I? I never really asked myself this question before although I did encounter it a few times at other blogs. It sure got me thinking. In order to figure it out, I have to ask myself a few questions. I don't know how this will help answering that question but let's just do it anyway.

(c) krnkr721

First of all, I know for certain that I am the kind of anime fan that is easily influenced by either the characters or the originality of the whole story/plot. I wasn't that picky about story line when I first started watching anime because at that time, all anime that I watched were new to me. However as years gone by, the lack of originality becomes quite apparent and we are served with one cliche shit after the other, especially when it involved moe, ecchi and shoujo; three of the least favorite genres of anime for me.

What drives me as a fan?

Nowadays I can say for certain that I am a character driven fan. Whether or not I will enjoy the show now depends heavily on the characters. If there is even one character that I fall for, be certain that I would probably continue watching the anime albeit the story. Please take note though that when I said fall, I mean me falling head over heels in love with that said character and not just merely liking them. They motivates me like no other, not even a 3D, can. Through this, I also find myself shipping the characters and will invest a lot of emotions into those shipping as well.

What kind of characters I am in to?

I guess it is because of my personality but I am always attracted to strong-will and feisty female characters. If you look at my banner up there, you see four of the fives female characters that I have such high regards for. The other one is of course Shiki. As for males, the range is quite expandable and flexible. I love characters like Sakata Gintoki to Ichimaru Gin and everything in between except for a wuss-good-for-nothing characters.

What kind of genre that gets me excited?

8 years ago I would say shounen in a heart beat since two of my gateway anime are shounen. Since then however I have watched and read all kind of genres, even those that I am not a fan of, from mecha anime to yaoi and everything in between. As I mature as a fan though, I found myself switching genres. Thanks to Gintama, I now appreciate wicked witty humor. Any other anime that has even an ounce of Gintama awesomeness is good enough for me. The recent example would be Nichibros. Uncharacteristically for me, maybe, but I also enjoyed slice-of-life more so than any other genres nowadays. They are often time that brought something different to the table, something that I have never seen before, or was executed differently and brilliantly that it moved me. They also contains somewhat real emotions that I can relate to and sometimes, even hit too close for comfort. But if there is one genre that always gets me excited, it would be yaoi. No explanation needed.

What am I looking for in an anime?

My ideal anime would have three things: bad-ass protagonists, original storyline, awesome visual. (1) When I said bad-ass, it doesn't have to be RAAAWWRRRR I AM GAR! but rather he or she is great at doing what she does. A touch of vulnerability as well to make them feels human. (2) originality is always good in my book but I understand how hard it is to come up with something original which is why I appreciate their effort even more if they managed to do just that. (3) So far there are few production studios that awe me with their ability to provide stunning visual and it's one of the reason why I mostly enjoyed their anime more so than other studios. In my opinion, that set them apart from other studios.

How many anime am I watching at the same time?

I used to watch more than 30 anime at the same time when I was a hikki back then. Nowadays, I would consider myself to be extremely lucky if I manage to follow 3 anime per season. That is just how drastic some changes in my life are. I am constantly feeling bad about this but I am well aware that there is nothing much I can do about it. With age comes responsibility. FUCK.

What kind of traits do I have as an anime fan?

Hmm let see... (1) I hate dub. I can't stand watching any dubbed anime. This does not mean that I think Japanese seiyuu is superior. I just think that anime should stay Japanese. (2) I used to be a figuretard but because I keeps getting busier by the day, I have stopped buying figures because what's the use if I don't have time to appreciate them? (3) YAOI FTW!! (4) I buy anime DVD that I love but  I do download anime fansub because well... it's free. Call me a cheapskate and see if I give a fuck. (5) I guess that makes me a fansub elitist? (6) I often wish I am an anime character (7) I write fanfic

Do I have any fetishes resulted in watching anime?

Too many to count on both hands but the most prominent one is the development of megane (glasses) fetish. It even affecting my real life as I keep finding myself falling for the next guy I saw wearing a thick-rimmed megane. It just makes me heart goes doki-doki. HHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNGGH!

Does watching anime affecting my real life?

Yes, yes it does. It plays a big part that dictates my emotions in daily basis. It opens up endless possibilities in order for me to survive mundane everyday life.

And that's all folks. I can't think of any other questions that I should ask myself. Having answered the questions above, I am still unsure of what kind of anime fan I am. Having said that, I think I could draw a conclusion albeit not as accurately as I want it to be : I used to be an avid hardcore fan. Now I am in between casual and hardcore fan. To explain it in one sentence- I am a character driven fangirl who loves shipping and probably will get a bOnar at every single thing that excites me in anime.

Yep, that sounds about right ^_^

What about you?

50 Questions Meme

The aniblog tourney has served it purposes, or at least to me it has. Thanks to it I managed to find few good anime blogs that I have never heard of before and came across some topics that are interesting and fun. One of them is the 50 Questions. I have no clue who started it (oh I do actually. It's Ace Railgun) and since it has been a while since I last wrote my meme post, I thought that I should adapted his idea and write my own post about it. It is non-original but I don't give a fuck ^_^

Questions About Anime

1. Who is your favorite male anime character?
Only one? Fuck this is hard. *thinks* It is always a toss between the two Gin: Ichimaru Gin and Sakata Gintoki. Can't I pick the love child of these two?

Oh my heart ♥
(c) Riya
2. Who is your favorite female character?
I always have an instant bOnar when it comes to Kuchiki Rukia. There is just something about her that makes me go hhhhhhhhhhhhhhnnnnnnnnggghhh all the time.

3. What is your favorite anime soundtrack?
I have to pick Fade to Black soundtrack, the third Bleach movie.

4. What is your favorite anime opening + animation?
Whenever someone mention an anime soundtrack, there is only one song that automatically played in my head and that is the opening song for Kannagi - Motto☆Hade Ni Ne! by Haruka Tomatsu. This is the only anime song that I have no problem standing up and dancing to like a moe girl that I am not.

5. What is your favorite anime ending song + animation?
The animation was simple - Rukia holding what looks like a red ribbon. It's the Bleach ending song for episode 1-13 by Rie Fu titled Life is Like a Boat. One of the most memorable anime songs for me.

6. What is your favorite anime scene?
That moment when Kyon realized just how important Haruhi is in his life, as he desperately searching for her in The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya movie.

7. If you could meet an anime character who would it be?
Haruhi Suzumiya. Since we both have a lot in common, who knows if maybe I could influence her to make some changes to the world.

8. What anime character is most similar to you in terms of personality?
Oh? I just answered this question indirectly for the previous question. But I think I am a cross between Haruhi Suzumiya and Kuchiki Rukia. Both are temperamental, feisty, independent as well as bitchy at times but we have our soft side, especially when it involved the people who we cares about.

9. What is your favorite thing about anime?
The characters and few other reasons.

10. What is your least favorite thing about anime?
Lately there is lack of originality in anime. It is all the same cliche shit being repeated over and over again. But all hope is not lost though. Some anime, though still having the cliche plot, managed to make it exciting, heart warming and downright mesmerizing and awe inspiring.

11. Who are your favorite anime couple?
My ultimate anime couple has to be Ichigo and Rukia. I have invested a lot of emotions for these two characters.

ICHIRUKI 4EVA ♥
(c) Rui

12. Who is your favorite anime animal?
Raigomaru from True Tears (Thanks Owen!)

Kara no Kyoukai series with Shiki ALWAYS wearing her yukata. She can has her power up and such as she solves mysteries and brutally murdered the bad guys.

I don't play game. The only games I knew are the real life game like Chess, Monopoly etc. Oh! We can have an anime about Chess!

15. What was the first anime you ever watched?
Dragon Ball. And then Bleach. You can read the chronicles of my gateway anime here.

16. Do you think you’ll ever stop watching anime?
Who knows but if I can help it, I won't stop watching it even when I have lost all my teeth and my hair is white. It would be rather fun sitting with my grandkids as I told them about the classic anime like Sakamichi no Apollon and Kara no Kyoukai movies.

17. What is your favorite genre of anime?
My favorite genre is quite diverse. I guess comedy (the intelligent one like that of Gintama) and perhaps slice of life with a touch of romance in it.

18. What is your least favorite genre of anime?
Hmm... my least favorite huh? It's either shoujo or ecchi. I really can't handle any of this genre well. I always ended up raging at how ridiculous everything is

19. Are you open about watching anime with people you know?
Yes, I even watched anime with people I don't know, like when I was on the plane and I watched them on my computer which eventually peak the curiosity of the with strangers beside me. I used to watch anime with my dad though. He still borrows my shounen anime DVD once in a while

20. Have you ever been to Japan?
Not yet.

21. What anime was the biggest let down for you?
True Tears. It also made me raged like I have never raged before >=(

22. What anime was better then expected?
Hyakko. I couldn't get enough of it and so I continue by reading the manga.

23. What is the best anime fight scene?
I've seen a lot of fight scenes in anime since I love that kind of anime to begin with but the fight scene in Sword of the Stranger are among my favorites, quite probably at the top of the list.

The Aniblog Tourney: Round 2

Well, the first round of the aniblog tourney was officially over yesterday and everybody is gearing up for Round 2 because this is where the real shit seriously begins. It will be interesting as fuck to see blogs that I am familiar with pitted against each other and makes it even harder for me to choose who should I vote for. In the end, it all comes back to my preference and if you knew me by now, you should know that I am biased as fuck so if you are pitted against my fav, then I am sorry. You should have been nicer to me and constantly provide me with instant bOnar!

see what I did 'ere?

In Round 1, there are several of my aniblogging friends that surprisingly didn't make it through. It was a blasphemy but life must continue. I know that they will do well regardless and the team that won against them won't survived in Round 2 anyway.

So, just like in Round 1, I am going to use my awesomeness to call out to my readers so that they will vote for these blogs below:

  1. May 1, 2012 - I am a bit confused of lostty's gender now. I always thought that lostty has a penis but it won't explain as to why his blog is called Anime Princess. This must be because she has a vajayjay instead. But yeah, vote for her!
  2. May 2, 2012 - Well a busy day for three of my chosen bloggers: Krizzly's Baka Laureate, Caraniel's Ramblings and Charles' Beneath The Tangles.
  3. May 4, 2012 - A shout out for the team members of Metanorn because I can see how hardworking these team is especially Kyokai. Same goes for the AIOA guys... please make your blog name shorter :P.
  4. May 5, 2012 - Sekijitsu! Hopefully there won't be unnecessary dorama this time around. Oh a special shout out for the CSW team as well. I love you both still ♥
  5. May 6, 2012 - It is good to see that Trazor's Trzr23 made it through to round 2. Continue support he and his team plox!
  6. May 7, 2012 - It's a good thing that they aren't pitted against each other: Ghostlining's We Remember Love and 8dayswithoutme's GAR GAR Stegosaurus.
  7.  May 8, 2012 - animekritik's Kritik der Animationskraft got through the first round. Let's make sure he will proceed to round 3!
  8. May 10, 2012 - I'll be up against two opponents since their match for round 1 was a tie. I'm fucked. On the other hand, you MUST vote for Illogicalzen, TJ's A Product of Wasted Time as well as Vuc and Bitmap's The Untold Story of Altair & Vega.
  9. May 11, 2012 - My girl Canne's Anime Review deserved to proceed to Round 3, just like my husband Glo's Eye Sedso (I'll probably write another post for him specially, just like I did last year). Joojoobees' Abandoned Factory Anime Review who was pretty excited for winning the first round will no doubt be ecstatic if he could win this match too. Last but not least, lets not forget to show our support Shinmaru's Unmei Kaihen by voting for him.

Like I said, Round 2 is more challenging as few of these bloggers have established themselves to be among the best i.e. famous in the aniblog sphere but wait till you see round 3! which I will be not a part of lol.

So my dear readers, however small the quantity is, your vote will probably mean something for these guys. If you could spend 2 minutes of your time by making these people happy, do it and feel good about yourself afterwards. Spread the love people!

Karneval gets the anime adaptation treatment

It has been a while since I last read the manga but I have not given up completely on it yet since it is one of the many manga I read that I can still remember the details and I always plan on catching up to it. Great news (or not depending on which studios will make it and who will direct it) for the fans of this series though because we get to see Gareki and Yogi get animated soon!

The news came about a few days ago, thanks to the obi strip found in the 9th volume of the manga. To those who have not a clue, Karneval (カーニヴァル) is a shoujo manga by Mikanagi Touya with a little sprinkle of fantasy and a hint of BL in it, which is exactly why I read it in the first place. It is full of beautiful characters, male and female alike, with homoerotic sides to them.

I doubt the anime will be a big hit with the males, unless they are gay. As for girls, especially those who breath yaoi in everyday life, this is like the best news ever.  Jess is at least one of few people I know that will share my excitement about this. And perhaps Vien as well ^__^

The Aniblog Tourney: Vote For These Bloggers

This is my first entry for the whole brouhaha of the second round of Aniblog Tourney. I am writing this after I saw that Trazor's blog is behind in the poll. I should probably do this when I saw O-New was behind and eventually lost his match) but I was busy that day so I apologize to Mushy for not doing the same thing to back him up. I love my anime blogger friends equally.

Well... that's a lie. Coz I clearly love Glo more since he is my husband though technically he isn't a blogger but an ISSSer XD

So back to the purpose of me writing this post: to ask my reader to help my friends by voting for them in the tourney. I remember doing the same thing for Baka-Raptor and Glo during the first tourney 2 moons ago.

I have no good solid reason to convince you why you should vote for these bloggers other than they are my friends. You can choose NOT to vote but that just prove you are a dick for being such a cunt. Wait - how was that even possible?

Anyway, you get my point.

There's nothing I can do for my friends who were already in the first round for the past few days (but they mostly win the match so no worries there). However I am determine to coax my readers to vote for my blogger friends who will be competing later on. I'm gonna list some dates here where these blogger friends of mine will be competing so yeah, it would be great if you can vote for them.

  1. April 21, 2012 - Trazor's blog. You can vote for Trzr23 here. It's today by the way so hurry the fuck up.
  2. April 23, 2012 - Kritik der Animationskraft
  3. April 25, 2012 - Illogicalzen which I always read as IllogicalAizen for some reason.
  4. April 26, 2012 - A Product of Wasted Time as well as Abandoned Factory Anime Review.
  5. April 27, 2012 - I always love Sorrow-kun insight on anime so yeah go for Behind the Nihon Review to support him if no one else from the team.

And that's it for Round 1. For other dates or matches, you can check it out here.

Round 2 would be a bit harder since some of these favorite bloggers of mine are pitted against each other but that's the fun part I guess unless another dorama occurred. I guess I will write another post for Round 2 when the time comes. Until then, do vote for the guys I mentioned above.

I hope by writing and promoting these guys, I won't get them disqualified for "manipulating the votes" >_>

I dare you

The Anime You'd Really Like To See

This post is inspired by ghostlining.

To be honest, I think I've seen the anime that I'd really like to see, or at least the anime that falls under the category of romance genre and that anime is none other than The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. That movie perfected the genre in my opinion. It evokes the true meaning of pure bliss and it gives me immense satisfaction and from watching it (numerous times and counting).

But that defies the purpose of writing this post, isn't it? Unlike ghostlining who wanted to create an anime that contains a matter of religion, or animekritik whose anime is inspired by Daft Punk, my anime would pale in comparison.

The genres will includes all of these: horror, psychological, fantasy and action. There is only one production studio that can achieved what I have in mind and that is ufotable. I want the same people who works on Kara no Kyoukai and maybe some from Fate/Zero to work on this anime. See where this is going yet? I hope not because I don't want another cliche shit anime. It will be 27 episodes because 26 is too mainstream.

It would be the story of the immortals in modern days. They are another whole bunch of human races, created by God himself on the same day He created Adam and Eve. Their existence however have been kept secret and was even omitted in all religious books. They are God's muse, so-to-say for they have only one purpose on earth, to be the epitome of greed. God created them to be merciless and without compassion. A complete opposite of normal human being.

Though immortals, they are not without weakness. Ironically, greed is what their weakness is. Temptation to have greater power will eventually be the cause of their death. Each of these immortals come with special power. Some power are weaker than the others. They killed the others to gain their power but they have a hefty price to pay. The process of gaining the power is not for the faint-hearted for it feels like your innards are being eaten inside out. There is no word that could describe the magnitude of the pain they have to endure. Many failed and succumb to death on their first try and those who succeed were too scared to try it again. Only few who are brave enough to endure those pains over and over again and thus became the powerful ones, as they developed skills to be a better hunter. So the weak hide from the one who are far more powerful than they are. To this day, less than 50 immortals remains and they are still hunt each others down to gain that possibility of being on the same par as the God himself, because if s/he succeed, he basically have all God's power except for creating a living thing out of nothing.

how I picture of of the female protagonist
(c) risa hibiki

There will be at least 7 immortals that the anime will focusing on. 3 females and 4 males, all of the same age and since it's anime, they will all be late teens. They blend in perfectly in society. They indulge in whatever normal humans do but if there's one thing they do best, that is to keep their secret a secret. If the world learned about it, they just have to kill the whole world, if you know what I mean. They are the wisest. After all they have survived how many thousands of years? These 7 immortals will hunt the each other as well as the other immortals and I'm still undecided whether to let one succeed or not but at least a lot of the immortals will be brutally murdered.

The first episode will be the introduction of those said immortals. It may take up to an hour long. Then the following 3 episodes will be of the back story of the immortals with snippets from different times and eras. That leave 23 episodes for hardcore greatness. Of course all the gruesome deaths, murders and killing will be glorified. Censorship is NOT allowed. The process of gaining those power will be in miniscule details. They may be lots of talk but I will balance it out with lot of actions too. As you can probably figured out by now, the anime would be dark as fuck.

And there you go, the anime that I'd really like to see. What do you think of it?

Oh did I mention that only Kalafina is allowed to the both the OP and ED? I still hasn't figure out the seiyuu though but that can wait :)

My Top 10: Characters That I Dislike in 2011

2011 has it ups and down but as an anime fan, I am pretty much satisfied at what the year has forked out to entertain us. Granted that not all the shows deserved praise but at least we have few decent and dare I say brilliant shows in between the seasons. Fall 2011 in particular has been quite rewarding for us fans.

Despite that though, there were characters that managed to ruin the shows for me and hence forced me to either rage quit or... oh wait there's no other option. As I have repeated so many times before, I am a character driven fan so despite the fact that the shows are good, but if there is one character that annoys the fuck outta me, most often than not, I won't bother to watch the show unless I have nothing better to do and need an outlet to rage.

So, here I am going to list down those said characters that in my opinion, should be burned at the stake. There won't be any editorial content that can justify this list. It is just how I felt.

anime: Mayo Chiki
character: Konoe Subaru
season: Summer 2011

(c) Re:N Ne

She was alright at first until the part that Kinjirou "accidentally" discovered that she's not exactly a male. I mean, who the fuck took a shit without closing the damn door? I could forgive her if it's her house but that was the fucking school for fuck's sake. That pretty much said to me that she's a slut and I don't do well with sluts.

anime: Poyopoyo Kansatsu Nikki
character: Poyo
season: Winter 2011

Yes, I am that big of a dick. I hate this round cat with a vengeance. A show revolved around a fat cat that does nothing in my opinion is fucking stupid, no matter how short the airing time for the episode is. It's not even funny... which defies the logic for such shows.

anime: Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko
character: Touwa Erio
season: Spring 2011

(c) Masui

To some her moeness might be one of the reasons why they love this show but to me, from the beginning, her moeness is the reason why I dislike this show. To me it was irritating. When I saw her eating her pizza inside that folded blanket, the only thing that came to my mind is that she sure as hell would have an unpleasant smell. I imagined the blanket to have all sorts of bacteria living in there and it must have smelled moldy with her sweating inside there. I don't think she took a bath either. Jeebus, get her away from me. But that's not the only reason. I think I don't like the idea of Makoto falling for her. In my opinion, he just wants her pussy because despite the retardedness, she's pretty as fuck. Urgh, reminds me that life isn't fair...

anime: Deadman Wonderland
character: Igarashi Ganta
season: Spring 2011

No justification needed in my opinion. Ganta is a fucking wimp.

anime: Mawaru Penguindrum
character: Takakura Himari
season: Summer 2011

(c) Loxcia

This might comes as a surprise to many but yes, I put this show on hold because I really don't like Himari. It wasn't her fault though. It just my fujoshi kicking in and I wanted yaoi incest to happen so very badly. Himari was that obstacle that ruining my fantasy and so she ends up in this list of mine.

anime: C³
character: Fear Kubrick
season: Fall 2011

(c) Aoba Senkiri

Just the fact that she appeared naked in someone's kitchen then acted like she owned the fucking place and made the person living there as her slave was already good enough reason for disliking Fear. Then add the fact that she is unbelievably rude and yet have people treating her so preciously. It just doesn't make any sense, does it? Also, I don't have respect for characters who practically begged to be fucked by the way she dressed, or behave. Who would fall and spread their legs conveniently for the male protagonist to see? She would and already did.

anime: Astarotte's no Omocha!
character: Astarotte Ygvar
season: Spring 2011

(c) Mutou

I guess it wasn't her fault but the fact that she has to consume semen in order to stay young and beautiful just makes her a slut by birth. It doesn't matter if she claimed that she hates men because eventually we all know she's gonna make Naoya cum in that small mouth of hers and for all the lolicon she will swallow it till the last drop!

anime: Dog Days
character: Millhiore F Biscotti
season: Spring 2011

(c) Ryo

SHE IS TOO PINK! Also, how the fuck am I supposed to take a character seriously when the name biscotti reminds me of the cookies? I hate women who appeared weak and seemed like she needed protection 24/7. Millhiore fits that description and by summoning Shinku, she proved my theory to be right.

anime: Sacred Seven
character: Aiba Ruri
season: Summer 2011

(c) pixiv id 1558005

Everything was going great but then she has to fucking ruined it by giving Alma that heart shaped stone. Suddenly Alma is no longer badass but a tamed fucker. She took over the school, forced herself on Alma and then used the sympathy card. That was too much for me. She should just fucked her butler and be done with the horny-ness.

So that's my top 10 most dislike characters in 2011. Do you have that one character that annoys you so much that it ruins the pleasure of watching that show?

Before I signing off for this post, here is an honorary mention for another character that successfully made me ragequit.

anime: Chibi☆Devi!
character: Sawada Honoka
season: Fall 2011

Another short show with airing time of 5 minutes, Chibi☆Devi! proved to be another disaster. For a show this short, it needs character that can carry it through flawlessly. Sawada Honoka is anything but that. She was bullied not only by her classmates but apparently by the Devil himself. It failed to make sense to me how she can calmly took the responsibility of raising a devil's baby. No wonder she got bullied a lot. She's a push over. Can't say that she didn't deserved the bullying...

Does any of the above characters pissed you off just like it managed to piss me off?

My Top 10: Anime of 2011

It has become sort of a tradition for us fans to list out our top ten anime of the year and since I've been doing it for the past couple of years, I might as well continue with the tradition. I think you can tell a lot from the list as to what the person's preferences are when it comes to anime, and how (or if) it changed over the years.

When I look at my 2010 and 2009 lists, I spotted a difference. Comedy anime pretty much dominated my list in 2010. However, I rather enjoyed anime with heavier plot and solid story in 2009. I am excited to see which anime will make it to the list for 2011.

My top 5 choices were easy but I was having quite a hard time with the bottom 5. Some I like because of the characters but found the story to be weak and the end anti-climatic while some I like for the story but didn't have anything that stood out. I need my criteria sorted out lol. Besides, shits were crazy at the start of the year and I hardly watched anything which mean I missed watching some few good anime like Madoka, Steins;Gate, Hourou Musuko, etc. I am pretty sure that at least my bottom 5 anime would be slightly different if I did completed those shows. Thus, after looking around the aniblogsphere I can see how my list is different from most of them. Oh well...

So for the time being, lets just get on with the list. After a long and very careful deliberation, here are my personal top 10 anime of 2011 in mixed orders:

9. Ao no Exorcist
Aired: Spring 2011
Episodes: 25
Producers: A-1 Pictures, Aniplex
Genres: Action, Shounen, Supernatural
My rating: 9/10

(c) pixiv id 3606202

If it wasn't for the anti-climatic ending and the fact that half of the episodes were fillers, Ao no Exorcist could have ended up higher up on my list because despite everything I just freaking love the Okumura twins. They also managed to keep me interested even through those fillers episodes that included the obligatory beach episode for the summer. At the end of the day, the casts and strong characters became it's backbone and carried this show through for me. Ao no Exorcist is a pretty darn typical shounen anime and A-1 Pictures knew this so when the series can't be original, they sure as hell live up to expectation by making sure that it was entertaining with a decent story for me to enjoy.

6. Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san!
Aired: Spring 2011
Episodes: 13
Producers: Production I.G.
Genres: Comedy, Supernatural
My Rating: 9/10

Each episode is only 12 minutes long but it manages to offend pretty much everyone and everything which in my opinion what makes this show so brilliantly funny. The comedy was unconventional and the characters even more so. Azazel-san pretty much reminds me of Gintama with it's random jokes and anything that reminded me of Gintama's humour deserved to be in my top 10 list. Beware though, enter at your own risk.

2. Ano hi Mita Hana no Namae O Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai
Aired: Spring 2011
Episodes: 11
Producers: A-1 Pictures, Aniplex, Fuji TV
Genres: Slice of life, Drama
My Rating: 10/10

(c) XI-Hypocrisy-IX

This show is as real as it gets when it comes to dealing with friendship, death and feelings and learning to deal with all that while day after day you grow farther apart from each other yet the attachment, or that bond, is still as strong as ever. Ano Hana for short (We Still Don't Know the Name of the Flower We Saw That Day - for the long English translation), hits so close to home that even to this day, I can't bring myself to watch the last episode of the show. I am not ready for either a disappointment, or a heartbreak. With Ano Hana, I was forced to see, consider and analyze far more than what would be considered healthy. Thanks to this show, it gave me the courage to seek those friends that I thought would have been best forgotten. Meeting them again was liberating and it made me see how much each of us have grown up as a person, either for better or for worse. For an anime show to have that kind of effect on a human being in real life, Ano Hana is definitely quite special in it's own right.

5. Kimi to Boku
Aired: Fall 2011
Episodes: 13
Producers: J.C. Staff, Aniplex
Genres: Slice of life, Comedy, Drama
My Rating: 9/10

(c) pixiv id 2678365

There is no practicing of trash music, or tea time after school. If you think this is the male version of K-ON than you are incredibly wrong so for the haters, clearly you are missing out on this one. Granted that it is full of bishies, but what is wrong with that? If us females can watch Lucky Star or K-ON, then it is definitely manly of you guys if you could watch this without feeling disgusted. People have the pre-notion that this show has no plot and is just a BL fantasies for us fans/gays. It is anything but that. Kimi to Boku tackles real issues growing up as boys (I grew up surrounded by boys so I have an idea or two). It was an honest show and because of that I found it alluring and it left me wanting more.

4. Fate/Zero
Aired: Fall 2011
Episodes: 13
Producers: ufotable, Aniplex, Nitroplus
Genres: Action, Fantasy, Supernatural
My Rating: 10/10

(c) Yukihime

I know shit about Typemoon and thus why I have some doubts going into the Fall season, as I've said in my preview. However after watching the first episode, and the fact that ufotable didn't disappoint me at all with their delivery, I quickly become a fan. Part of it was thanks to Reiki, a reader of my Fate/Zero episodic posts who never got tired in teaching me the ropes about the Fate-verse and gradually made me interested in it as well. It's true what the saying goes then... tak kenal maka tak cinta (you can't fall in love if you didn't know them). Fate/Zero far surpasses Fate/Stay Night, it's predecessor, in every way imaginable. I love Kara no Kyoukai for the dark themes and I basically got what I was asking for in Fate/Zero due to the awesomeness of ufotable, from the directing, visuals, character expositions and everything/anything else you can think of. It all adds up into a much more complex and intriguing tale, a journey that is certainly unforgettable and definitely fulfilling.

1. Working'!!
Aired: Fall 2011
Episodes: 13
Producers: A-1 Pictures
Genres: Comedy
My Rating: 10/10***

(c) Atsu Takashi

Wow, really klux? Two years in a row? YES REALLY. Working'!! is a fine piece of work. The changed of director and crew for the the second season really did pay off as can be seen from the story. Everything from the animation to sound, characterization to story are all quality materials and together form both a visually and emotionally satisfying experience. The anime is far past the point of debate whether watching it would be enjoyable and worth one's while, because it most certainly is. The comedy is casual and yet hit with such force that all you can do is laughed your ass off. Unlike in first season where the focus was only on Inami and Takanashi, we have different plots that keep us on our toes because the way Working'!! is written you don't know what to expect. Most of the comedies I watched were average if not mediocre so when something like Working'!! comes along, something new, something exciting, something that you can watch and be merry about, I just ended up enjoying it. The fact that it had pique my interest from season 1 meant that it had established itself as something special, something good enough that A-1 Pictures able to be improved on after every episodes. Just how did they do it, really? For everything that Working'!! does just beautifully right, there is usually little it gets horribly wrong. I absolutely endorse this anime to anyone even if they didn't ask for my opinion.

7. Persona 4 the Animation
Aired: Fall 2011
Episodes: tbc
Producers: Aniplex, AIC A.S.T.A, Sentai Filmworks
Genres: Mystery, Supernatural, Adventure
My Rating: 9/10

(c) pixiv id 1329357

I didn't play the games but from what I've heard from those who did play and watch the anime, the anime is pretty faithful to the games and though it has it shares of pros and cons, I want to pay my respect for the producers. I thought it would be straight as an arrow and just action from end to finish. Persona 4 surprised me at the humors which I didn't expect from such show and it is mostly the reason why it ended up on my list. Since the show is on going, it wouldn't be fair to exaggerate so I ended my thoughts here.

10. Ikoku Meiro no Croisée
Aired: Summer 2011
Episodes: 12
Producers: Satelight, Sentai Filmworks
Genres: Slice of life, Historical
My Rating: 9/10

(c) Nya?

This show was the biggest surprised for me for the summer. It wasn't even on my radar until I watched the first couple of episodes. Croisee was mostly overlooked and quickly disregarded by many because just like me, the initial reaction to the preview was that this anime is nothing more than another "moe-trash" and simple pandering. Well, true that Yune was moe but damn she's adorable. This comes from someone who has a personal vendetta against moe (that of K-ON's standard). I love the interaction between the characters especially the two main protagonists. I found myself leaning a bit closer to the computer screen whenever the scene involved Yune and Claude. In fact, I didn't feel the slightest of guilt trying to make Claude a lolicon. Croisée of the Foreign Labyrinth is a piece of resistant to much of the failings that we often found in both historical and slice-of-life anime.

3. Mirai Nikki
Aired: Fall 2011
Episodes: 26
Producers: FUNimaton, Asread
Genres: Thriller, Action, Mystery
My Rating: 10/10

(c) pixiv id 345349

I love blood in my anime but sadly we didn't get enough of that lately. Deadman Wonderland was promising but damn it all those censorship, as well as the weak ass story, made me quickly lost my interest. Mirai Nikki on the other hand has a compelling story and a company of pretty wacky characters, especially Yuno Gasai, who quite possibly the only character that made this show so much win. Mirai Nikki has everything I am looking for in anime that isn't a comedy or a slice-of-life. It is a psychology thriller, with murders, gore, sins and some demented killers. They are the mechanics that makes this show so addictive. Nutcase is the right choice of word that really sums up Mirai Nikki as a show. Haters be damned.

8. Chihayafuru
Aired: Fall 2011
Episodes: 25
Producers: Madhouse Studios
Genres: Drama, Sports
My Rating: 9/10

(c) pixiv id 280496

The general idea that this show is about a Karuta card game should put us all to sleep but after one episode, most of us has nothing but praise for this show. It wasn't just about the card game, which they successfully made it looks like it was an exciting game, but it also has that element of friendship and romance that surrounded the three main protagonist. I quickly found myself rooting for Taichi, knowing very well how hurt and lonely it could be when your love is unrequited. The fact that I can identified with Taichi should be enough reason why this show ended up in my list but that is not all. The premise is simple and yet the story is so well written/thought of that it will just pull you deeper with every passing episodes. This is an anime that is best experienced one episode at a time as it thrives from the long exposure.

And so ladies and gentlewomen... that concludes my list. I'm pretty balance with my choice of anime of 2011 from heavy stuff that involved friendship, murders, horrors, and even Master/Servants relationship to the more light hearted comedy with a dash of slice of life (and perhaps a little BL) in it.

I wished for the anime industries to have better anime produced in 2011 and my wish was granted. Compared to previous couple of years, 2011 can be said as a come back year for some anime. They have everything that taste just right for my palate from thought-provoking anime to slice of life anime about boys instead of girls. Hopefully 2012 would be even grander than 2011.

Having said that, from 2011/12 Winter season preview... it looks rather disappointing... T_T

Life without Gintama isn't a life worth living

If you have never watched Gintama, or even heard of it, you have committed one of the most grievous sins. Change that! Start watching it now! Gintama can save your soul. Trust me on this one. It is after all THE GREATEST ANIME ever!

Before you said anything, continue reading about what I have to say about it.

(c) pixiv id 236246

If there is one thing that makes me frustrated, it's when people keep saying that they can't watch Gintama because of the number of episodes it has. I mean, what kind of a fucking lame excuse is that? If Sougo hear this, he'll hunt you down and fucking tortured you to death because he is one sadistic bastard and I love him so much.

First of all, it only has (as of the moment I write this) 239 episodes. That is considered little if compared to other shounen jump anime like Naruto, Bleach and the father of them all, One Piece. You don't even have to watch it in one go. In fact, Gintama is at it's best when you savor it. To tell you the truth, I am not up to date with the episodes either. I purposely not catching up to it so that I have Gintama episodes reserved when I feel like killing random people, and then some babies.

And then there's people who used the excuse of "it's a comedy and I don't watch comedy". Well fuck that. You obviously didn't know what you were talking about and made the mistake of judging the book by it's cover. There is no show that have such depth as Gintama. It discussed anything and everything from alien invasion to cotton candy.

So seriously, you need to have Gintama episodes on your hard disk or anywhere that is accessible for you 24/7. I don't need to repeat myself because I already told you why you MUST watch this show by hook or by crook. You will find non stop amusement, from the episode title to the pace of the show. Let's be honest now, we all need "that".

However, I can forgive you if you didn't watch the show but is reading the manga instead. Hideaki Sorachi is a fucking genius either way. It is simply brilliant. I mean just look at these quotes for example

I won’t give my panties to men who won’t even expose their face. If you want, challenge me from the front without the mask on. Set your heart free from the panties!
- Shimura Otae

Let’s dye white briefs with new blood!
- Kagura

Gintoki… even if I fall into the earth, you’ll catch me again, and… I’ll fly as many times as I want into space…
- Sakamoto Tatsuma

You won't be getting shit like these from anywhere else. Gintama is an honest comedy with moments that will convert you into a Gintamard for life.

I implore you. Gives this show a try and see how your world as you know it changed before your eyes. There are Gintamards and then there are everyone else.

p/s: The first few episodes were kinda slow but once it pick up, you'll be at the edge of your seat trying not to fall down from laughing too much.

My Top 10: Memorable Death Scenes

Monroe Anderson asked me to list down my top 10 favorite death scenes in anime/manga almost a year ago when I started my top 10 project (speaking of which, I never did say anything about it in my blog. I guess post forthcoming). I thought I postponed it long enough so here I am writing about it though I changed it from favorite to memorable.

Why? Come to think of it, it shouldn't really be my favorite since most of the time, these deaths became the reason why I lost interest in that said anime and even dropped the show. They became memorable because I am biased for the dying character and thus why it affected me so. I just can't help it. I invested a lot of affections for these characters thus my attachment to them runs deep.

Well, here goes it, in no particular order because ranking it would be too much of a hassle. Also, I think I should probably warn some of you guys that this post obviously contained spoilers. Read the following at your own risk.

anime: Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann
character: Kamina
seiyuu: Katsuyuki Konishi
died in episode: 8

(c) yoku

I feel obligated to start the list with Kamina otherwise I would have feel that this list lack in GAR. Those who knew me well would have known that I raged when I found out that Kamina was dead. I remember sitting in front of my computer and was dumbfounded by his death. I kept waiting for his revival but he stayed dead much to my dismay. I watched a couple more episodes after that but the show wasn't the same without him, plus they introduced Nia who is in my list of least favorite characters. I ended up dropping it until Baka Raptor and Glo convinced me to finish it (he even wrote a post about it) which I eventually did late last year. Like I said, it wasn't the same, even if Simon sorta became quite a badass himself. Did I cry? Surprisingly, I didn't because I was too busy raging about it.

anime: Shikabane Hime: Aka
character: Keisei "Shikei" Tagami
seiyuu: Keiji Fujiwara
died in episode: 12

he's that cool dude with the megane back there

Keisei was an effing cool guy and he was not your average monk either. He had to be my favorite character for the show and I remember bawling my eyes out when his possessed adopted brother Ouri killed him. I think I might be grudging about it which was why I couldn't watched passed the third episode of the second season. I was still blaming Ouri for Keisei's death and still am.

manga: Naruto
character: Itachi Uchiha
died in chapter: 394

(c) Kivi 1230

Another older brother who got killed by his younger brother which further stem my dislike for Sasuke. He was depicted as the villain at first but as his character developed, we were able to understood the reasons for his actions and that just thawed at my heart. When he was killed, I cried and cursed the damn Sasuke and promised myself to seek vengence lol. I remember my Gotei friends and I from facebook mourning for weeks after his death. He is sorely missed.

manga: Bleach
character: Gin Ichimaru
died in chapter: 423

(c) pixiv id 1954268

Damn you Monroe. By including this in the list I can no longer be in denial. I have to acknowledge the fact that Gin truly is dead. I loved Gin for his evilness and yet right before he said his last words, we learned about the truth. The reason was surprisingly romantic for a shinigami who was one of the most cunning characters in anime history. It just strengthened and multiplied my obsession. Why must a solid character like him died but a useless character like Momo can live even after she was stabbed twice in the guts. Damn you Kubo. I curse you. Damn you for making me cry T____T
p/s: Gin still lives inside of my b0nar.

anime: Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
character: Yuuki Onozawa
seiyuu: Yumiko Kobayashi
died in episode: 8

Maybe because it was so unexpected that when they finally revealed the death of Yuuki, I was taken aback and can't stop my tears from flowing. It made me feel compassionate for Mirai because I feel her lost deep inside my heart. I am sure all who watched the show felt pretty much the same way. It definitely made the show suddenly felt more real.

anime: Death Note
character: L Lawliet
seiyuu: Kappei Yamaguchi
died in episode: 25

I believe it is pretty black and white when it comes to Light and L. You can only love one and dislike the other. In my case, I dislike Light's fucked up righteous shit and find comfort with L eccentric characteristics and personalities. I am still sad with the fact that he died. For a genius like him, he should have live longer. He would have bring greater goods to the world.

anime: Grave of the Fireflies (movie)
characters: Seita and Setsuko

The fact that this movie is about the World War II is already saddening but to see these two kids struggle to survive in that harsh condition is heart wrenching. I personally think that the deaths were beautifully orchestrated to depict what really did happen during the war (in any war) and in fact still happening even now after 50 years. Nowadays, we lives comfortably in the comfort of our home while there are millions of kids who are still homeless and die of hunger. We still have people bombing each other killing civilians who are mostly women and children. Such is the world we live in, where greed and power conquer all.

anime: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
character: Maes Hughes
seiyuu: Keiji Fujiwara
died in episode: 25

Hughes was a loving father who doted on his daughter at every chance he got. He was so proud of her, he practically shoving her pictures to anyone he met. He was killed by Envy while in duty and perhaps the reason why we were all saddened by his death was because of the family he left behind. We kinda shared that sorrow. His death was the catalyst that made Roy Mustang wanted to overthrow and defeat the Military so in hindsight I don't think he died in vain.

anime: Dragon Ball Z
character: Vegeta
seiyuu: Ryo Horikawa

Vegeta's death in the Buu saga was badass. He fucking blew himself up. For the first (and last time) he actually willing to sacrifice for someone else. He does it for the ones that he loves – Bulma, his son Trunks, and even, begrudgingly, for Goku. What took place before it with him and Trunks made it mean all the more.

anime: Fate/Stay Night
character: Archer
seiyuu: Junichi Suwabe
died in episode: 14

He was my favorite character in Fate/Stay Night and when he was killed by Berserker, I lost all interest to watch the rest of the show but I grudgingly did so without giving any shit to the episodes. That was why I can't remember any important details from Fate/Stay Night. I found the show to be pretty weak and boring without Archer. It was sort of irony given his personality but I guess that was where his charms lie.

And that concluded my top 10 list for favorite death scenes. I think the choices I made are pretty repetitive but you gotta admit that there weren't that many deaths in anime to choose from. Sure we have side characters died left and right in shounen but that shouldn't count.

So what is your favorite death scenes?

p/s: I excluded Spike because I want to believe that he is still alive.

As a Haruhi fan, I feel obligated to share this. Watching Kyon in that outfit doing the dance just made my day ^__^

Fall 2011 anime updates

Most of the Fall season's shows are already passed the 6 episodes which mean it is prime time for me to decide which shows I would continue watching, dropped or put on hold. I won't bore you guys with what I thought of each shows, you can read them in my first impression posts or through my nikki (if you can't find an episodic review about it).

This season proved to be good, or at least for me it felt that way. It is relatively easy to see whether or not I enjoy the season. I write even more episodic review this Fall compared to any previous seasons and that has to mean something.

I feel obligated to list down my top five anime of the season. The reason why they are in my top five is simple, it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside and in between that, they made me laugh. The best kind of combination in my opinion.

anime: Working'!!

anime: Persona 4 the Animation
(c) Koredemoka

anime: Mirai Nikki
character: Yuno Gasai
(c) pixiv id 2630681

anime: Kimi to Boku
(c) Ono

anime: Fate/Zero
characters: The Servants

Now on to the rest of the enjoyable shows. Some I ended up writing a review for each episodes. This is not me saying that for the ones that I am not reviewing aren't good. It just that I have a lot more to say about these shows compared to the other shows. The shows that ended up in my diary are enjoyable as well. They are what I called "guilty pleasures" because I don't normally watch these kind of shows. For example, I usually will mad with rage when it comes to show like Mashiro-Iro Symphony but for some reasons, so far I found the dorama endearing. Hopefully it will stay that way and won't pissed me off too much. Anyway, back to the list:

anime: Chihayafuru
characters: Mashima Taichi and Wataya Arata
(c) pixiv id 324739

anime: Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai
character: Mikazuki Yozora
(c) matsugawa

anime: Mashiro-Iro Symphony
character: Sena Airi

anime: Hunter X Hunter
(c) Tsunekawa Niwasuke

anime: Last Exile ~Fam, The Silver Wing~
character: Luscinia Hafez
(c) mizunoe

anime: Phi Brain - Kami no Puzzle

anime: UN-GO
characters: Yuki Shinjuurou and Inga
(c) pixiv id 3559611

And then there is show that disappoint me which forced me to dropped it and put it on a back burner indefinitely. I feel like noitaminA has phailed me T__T

anime: Guilty Crown
character: Daryl Yan
(c) pixiv id 488962

There is a reason why I put up a character to represent each shows. These characters are playing the pivotal role in convincing and making me enjoy the shows so much. As you all probably know I am a character-oriented person and why I always stressed the importance of establishing connection with the characters. By doing so, I feel like I am more appreciative with the characters. For the shows that I didn't single out a character mean that I love every single one of them. Simple as that.

And that ends this filler post.
