Aku no Hana

It has been a while I got this excited for an anime. In fact, I can't remember the last anime that got me all worked out like this. Needless to say, I think Aku no Hana is a very awesome anime. I definitely recommended it to everyone.

A Year Older: Again

It’s that day when I got another level up in life. I’m turning a year older again today. So many things have changed in a course of a year. I read what I wrote on my birthday last year and I almost choked with laughter at how ridiculous everything sounds.

Goodbye 2012 and Hallo 2013

So overall, year 2012 has indeed been kinder to me. I have achieved what I set out to achieve but most importantly, I unexpectedly found love which is easily the highlight of the year for me.

Light Writings: Love II

I need an outlet to express how I feel nowadays. To be honest, things are going too good for me at the moment to the point that I am sort of living in fear for I do not want these extremely good feelings, and the love I have for him to end. If all these are gone tomorrow, there is a big probability that I might lose sanity.

Light Writings: Crush II

Welp, looks like we are having this conversation again after so many years. Well 2 years and 3 months to be exact. The last time I wrote about my crush, I was in a different state of mind where I know it can be nothing more than just that, a crush.

First Impression: Gakkatsu

In my preview, I said I wasn't a fan of the art. From the poster it looks too much like a western cartoon than an anime and I don't like that. However, lets not judge the book by it's cover. After all, I did end up enjoying Sengoku Collection, didn't I?

Don't be fooled

Chiho Takachiho is the class president of some random class that discussed random thingy after school. I don't have any idea what Gakkatsu means but I hope it means utter randomness because that was this show is all about. In this first episode, Chiho discussed that bump thingy you found on your wrist. She was annoyed that she doesn't know what it was called (I didn't know either). A brainy kid solved that by providing the answer: Ulnar Styloid process. Chiho rejected it because it sounds so terrible and after voting democratically, they decided to call it Miss Bumpsies.

Like I said, utter randomness.

Well, at least the art and animation wasn't as bad as Double J though it wasn't any better. Because this show is only 5 minutes long per episode, people won't find it difficult to dedicate their time to watch some annoying megane girl discussing anything of her fancies.

I wasn't sure whether I will watch this or not but it wasn't as shitty as I thought it would be. There's still hope for this show yet.

First Impression: Chibi☆Devi!

This show is only 5 minutes long per episode. There is actually little to no info about it on Anime News Network. I had to search Wikipedia to see who produced this shit since My Anime List fucked up. I wasn't too thrilled after I found out that this is show is an adaptation of a shoujo comedy manga series by Hiromu Shinozuka. Nothing against the author but shoujo is just not my thing.

Sawada Honoka is a student who always gets bullied by her schoolmate. She can't stand up for herself which in my opinion why she deserved to be bullied. She is always alone, and not by choice which mean she's a pathetic 14 year old girl. One day she went to sleep praying to God and God granted her wish. He gave her a devil baby boy. Like it or not she has to take care of him. Lucky for her that Mao will avenge her when she gets bullied.

SynergySP sucks at the animation an arts which just make this 5 minutes show feels last an hour. The story itself is weak. Unless Mao turns into a 14 year old boy, I'm not interested to see Sawada attended to the baby in every episodes. It just too damn boring. I mean, the kid is the spawn of the devil for fuck's sake, let him do mass murderer or something similar. That would make this story so damn entertaining, as Sawada tried to teach what's right and what's wrong to a devil.

Chibi☆Devi! is not cute and I figure it will just gets more annoying as it progresses. So there ya go, I'm dropping this shit.

First Impression: Phi Brain - Kami no Puzzle

Initially this show is categorized in the "potential to be shit" list in my Fall preview. I just don't like the sound of the synopsis. It was too overly complicated and a little bit too ambitious I think. However, here I am now sitting in front of my computer watching this shit instead of finishing a business proposal.

The show started with a high school student who looks like he has a permanent scars under his eyes, saving some dude in a cape from death as he tried to solve a puzzle that caused the earth to cave in and consequently created a lake. Like I said, they are too ambitious with the ideas.

Daimon Kaito (that's his name by the way) is self-claimed puzzle genius. He's your Indiana Jones. In short, he's an asshole. Soji, the president of a puzzle club at his school gave him a game that contains several puzzles to be solved. Once he got that cleared he receive an invitation from a Minatour, some retarded dude wearing a buffulo mask. Either he will solve the puzzle or he dies. Meh, needless threat >_>

Anyhoo, Soji is in the league with the principal to recruit student with Phi Brain and obviously Kaito is a candidate. They need him so they can get to Divine Puzzle shit whatever. But first he has fulfill the Orpheus' Contract, which he did (duh).

When I heard the name Kaito, my brain does a flip and this is the only image that comes to mind

The character designs, like I pointed earlier are kind of derpy. I just don't dig it much. It's just not about the designs but the personality of the characters as well. They are kind of a typical and nothing inspirational. Thankfully though the seiyuus are all pretty excellent and that makes the characters likable to a certain extend. The episode itself is meant to be engaging but it just lack the excitement. It would have been better if the audience is allowed to figure out some one the puzzle as well. The grand idea is there but they sort of fail at the execution.

I would have dropped this if it wasn't for the preview. It seems like they will introduce a new character that will be one of the three musketeers for this show and he looks crazy enough to pique my interest.

So for now, this show survives.

First Impression: Psychic Detective Yakumo

Psychic Detective Yakumo is one of the shows that are in my top priority list this fall season. I expect this to be good because it kinda looks different from any of the show this season. Let see whether or not it is up to my expectation.

This show is about a Yakumo, a university student who has the psychic ability to deal with ghosts and specters. The plot started when Haruka barged in into Yakumo's office and asked him to help her get rid of the bad spirits that possessed her friends. Well, if you know me by now, you would probably guessed that I don't like Haruka right of the bat. She asked for help but acted all snotty and bitchy about it. After she got what she wanted though, she was all slutty and shit. If I was Yakumo I would have slap her and kick her out of the office. And no, I would not be tempted to rape such poor specimen either. One of Yakumo's power is that he can bridge the world of the living and the dead so the spirit and the human can meet and hug. Cliche shit.

The story was supposed to be suspenseful but it was easy to guess who is the bad guy by the way they tell the story. For a detective show, this is definitely a let down. It is one of the strongest beef I have with it because it kills off the mood completely.

Yakumo as a character has no special traits that stands out. That is until his left eye's contact lense gone missing and revealed his red neko-like eyes. I was delighted because it looks as hot as I thought it would be. To me, Yakumo looks like a meshed up of L and Kira and I'm not complaining about it. Haruka is not as bad as I said she was but she isn't any better either. Her back story about losing her sister because of her was cliche as fuck thus I kinda dislike her even more. Her character is that typical weak damsel in distress shit. The kind of character that I have little to no patient at all. Besides Yakumo and Haruka, there is Gotou, the real police detective who kinda help Yakumo out in his cases. Looks like there are more interesting characters to make their debut in the next episode though.

At first I thought the OP sounds kinda gay. After about 20 seconds, I changed my mind. It didn't really wow me with the music but it is decent. The ED has that sad quality to it which I think fits perfectly to the show. But again, nothing special about it. Ono Daisuke is the seiyuu for Yakumo. He have voiced these kind of character with similar traits a lot, or at least a seiyuu for show with similar traits: horror/mystery. As for the other seiyuu, I don't really give a rat ass atm.

In terms of art and animation, the show kinda average at best. It didn't stand out at all. But at least they did try to make Yakumo looks hot and kinda succeed at it. They phailed to adapt Haruka though. She looks so much better in the manga.

Didn't I say that this show is another adaptation of a manga? Psychic Detective Yakumo or Shinrei Tantei Yakumo was released in 2007 and has only 9 chapters (2 volumes). The manga is a collaboration between Kaminaga Manabu (the authors) and Miyako Ritsu who drew it. The manga itself wasn't that big of a success but apparently there was a live action adaptation of it too so they must have did something right there.

I can't say that I enjoyed the show very much. I am still kinda disappointed with the turns of spoiler events. If this continue, I don't think it will be in my top priority list anymore.

First Impression: Bakuman

Bakuman is one of the anime that I really want to check out. I read the manga but kinda dropped it after a while. Although the plot is awesome and I love Takagi, I was at the point in my life where I can't handle anything that has romance in it. I was okay with Takagi's relationship but when it comes to Mashiro and Azuki, that was too much. So I dropped it, with an intention of picking it up again when I'm less of an emotional tard. Unfortunately life kinda get the better of me and I never got the chance to read it again.

So I was very happy when I learned that they are going to adapt Bakuman into an anime. It would save me a lot of times actually. Thank you JC Staff.

(c) akishima kei

Bakuman is about Mashiro who has quite the talent in drawings. He is pretty much kinda gave up on his dream and almost gave up on the love of his life too though. This of course changed when Takagi approached and asked him to be his partner. Takagi got the brain and all but he can't draw even if his life depended on it. Mashiro, of course, declined Takagi's proposal right away. His uncle was a mangaka so he knows how one would struggle to make a living as a mangaka. It's either you made it or you don't. Since his uncle passed away as an unsuccessful, he thought being a mangaka can't secure you a stable future.

But Takagi won't give up just because Mashiro said no. This is why I love him. And in all honesty, the only reason I like Bakuman in the first place is because of Takagi. He has that personality that I want to jump and molest. He said he doesn't have the look but I beg to differ. Oh and that megane. I have a fetish for megane...

Anyway Takagi take matters into his own hands and pretty much playing the match maker for Mashiro and Azuki. Although he's man that talks a lot, his action was louder too. And he knows exactly what he wants and determined to get it no matter what. Very admirable.

Thanks to Takagi, both Mashiro and Azuki got the courage to confess to each other. Mashiro even proposed to her and surprisingly she said yes though they should never meet again until both of them are successful (LOL sounds pretty much like my story. ROFL). Like I said, if it wasn't for Takagi, Mashiro will be a loser and wallowing in self-pity for the rest of his life.

I have covered about Takagi. Lets talk about Mashiro a bit. I think he's a wuzz. He just phailed to appeal to me both in the manga and in the anime. I blame it on personality or could it be that I pretty much has a clear idea of what kind of character that I will consider likeable. Hmm, maybe I'll write a post about it. Then there's Azuki, the timid shy girl. The kind of girl that I don't usually get along well with. The one thing that I like about her is that she's very determined and does not give up easily. Next week we are going to meet her best friends who I really like when I read the manga. So far that's the main four characters for these first couple of episodes. Then we will have a more interesting character who I really look forward to.

Aight the first OP kinda WTF? I thought I was being punk'd. LOL then I remember that it's from the manga that Mashiro's uncle did. The real OP came after that. I am going to reserved my opinion until I have heard it a few times. The ED sounds better than the OP though. It is catchy and it just has that certain quality that will definitely grow on me. As for the seiyuu, Mashiro just sounds so familiar because his seiyuu, Atsushi Abe, does Touma. Satoshi Hino did a good job with Takagi.Takagi is some one with a lot of expression and so far I think Satoshi kinda nailed those parts.

The art was meh at best. Because I just completed To Aru Majutsu no Index, which was also produced by JC Staff, I immediately compared these two shows. Bakuman is so below the par and it kinda sad and irony if you think about it since this story is about manga and anime but they are not excelling in the art department at all. Having said that, they did get the character designs right to a T. I was glad that Takagi looks like Takagi.

In terms of enjoyment, it was so-so. I wasn't that excited but not really bored by it either. I will continue to watch this and when it comes to the part where I dropped the manga, then I know I'll be hooked.
