First Impression: Hakuouki - Shinsengumi Kitan

Do you know what that is? That is a sign that I probably going to like this series. If it continues to provide the same amount of blood like the first few minute of the pilot episode, then I am contented. Even if it has a shitty plot, I will sit through the torture if only for the blood. Yes, that's how much I love blood.

People who know me would have realized that I will dislike Chizuru the moment I set my eyes on her. I just knew that she's going to be weak and caused unnecessary trouble because one of the Shinsengumi guys will want to protect her. Urgh... This series better has lots of blood to compensate the shitty leading female.

Okay, I have a question. Was it a regulation or something for the Shinsengumi to have specific names that represent their rank? Like Kondou for Captain, Hijikata for Vice-Captain and Okita for for the third person in charge? I asked because they are using the same name as the one in Gintama. They even have the same sort of attitude. It could not be a coincidence right?

The male characters are interesting I guess. They all have their own personalities to make this series a lively one. Just like in Gintama, Okita is my favorite Shinsengumi. He reminds me a lot of Kon from Amatsuki. Damn, I wish they hurry up with the translation of the manga!

But yeah, I predict that along the way this will turn out to be some sort of a shoujo shit. I hope they won't go too deep with the romance and focus more on the action. Otherwise I will drop this. This has potential. It better stay that way a little longer.

Blood? I'm in.

Don't get your hopes too high

Fuck. The blog ate my long comment. ;__;

Anyway, the Shinsengumi were an actual group that existed in Bakumatsu Japan. They're a popular subject for anime/manga/films in Japan. If you're interested in the group, or like BL-ish themes, I would recommend the film "Taboo". Its pretty interesting, though it doesn't exactly have a happy ending.

As much as I love the Shinsengumi (and oni/vampire themes), I'm iffy on this anime. I don't think I want to be caught watching something based on an otome game. The heroines tend to be dumb and useless as shit (who wants to play a game where you pretend to be someone like that?).

However, Okita is always my favorite Shinsengumi captain and I'm tickled pink that he is voiced by Morikubo Shotaro. I also love that Tsuda Kenjiro is voicing against type by portraying a bishonen baddie.

That being said, since it is half a year later, did you find this worth following? Judging by your lack of Hakuoki posts, I'm guessing the answer is "no".

Thanks for the educational info on Shinsengumi. That film "Taboo" you mentioned, was it a live action movie or that or anime?

I didn't know this anime was a game adaptation. That kinda explained the annoying female protagonist. I dunno why Japan keep making this dumb heroines. I find it as a discrimination against women.

I want to watch this but my busy scheduled kinda make me put it on hold for a bit. Also, if I detect any shoujo shit happening, I will drop this like it's a bomb.

Why does your blag keep eating my posts? I think it hates me. ;__;

Taboo is a live action film. It stars Ryuhei Matsuda as the femmy looking boy that all the Shinsengumi are lusting over. Unfortunately, the only guys who get past second base with him are the fugly old ones. (I'm not into yaoi/BL, but if I have to watch two men getting intimate, I'd prefer it if they BOTH were attractive.)

The game looks much like the typical shoujo shit, but what interested me in it in the first place (aside from the Shinsengumi/vampire theme) was some of the art I found floating around on the web. Its pretty damn tasty looking, if I do say so myself.

Frankly, the game sounds like a weird fantasy rip-off of the manga "Kaze Hikaru". At least so far as the who "girl disguises herself as a boy and joins the Shinsengumi" thing goes. However, the heroine in "Kaze Hikaru" is pretty adorable and likable.

I've been assured by the girls I know who have seen "Hakuouki" that it isn't very shoujo-y. However, these girls also LOVE the heroine, so I'm not sure how much I trust their judgment.

Whoa... You just kinda ruined Taboo for me already. LOL. First of all, real live action gives me the beejeebus. I mean, I can't even watch porn. I can handle 2D just fine but 3D is a big no no. Second, I'm not gonna watch some ugly old fuck screwing a bishounen. That's blasphemy!

I agree that the arts are looking mighty fine there. Like I said, the bishies are my only motivation for this show.

I don't trust girls who are into these kind of characters. They usually tend to be like the character they are rooting for. It's that "I can relate to her" factor.

Sorry! I forget that some people are like that. (But I'll admit that I'm more or less the same.) You don't actually see any of the sex stuff, but its implied enough to make it squicky. I found the "love triangle" and the ultimate ending interesting, but aside from that, I can't say its a brilliant film or anything.

lol no worries. You're kind enough to recommend and warn me about it. So thanks :)
