Aku no Hana

It has been a while I got this excited for an anime. In fact, I can't remember the last anime that got me all worked out like this. Needless to say, I think Aku no Hana is a very awesome anime. I definitely recommended it to everyone.

A Year Older: Again

It’s that day when I got another level up in life. I’m turning a year older again today. So many things have changed in a course of a year. I read what I wrote on my birthday last year and I almost choked with laughter at how ridiculous everything sounds.

Goodbye 2012 and Hallo 2013

So overall, year 2012 has indeed been kinder to me. I have achieved what I set out to achieve but most importantly, I unexpectedly found love which is easily the highlight of the year for me.

Light Writings: Love II

I need an outlet to express how I feel nowadays. To be honest, things are going too good for me at the moment to the point that I am sort of living in fear for I do not want these extremely good feelings, and the love I have for him to end. If all these are gone tomorrow, there is a big probability that I might lose sanity.

Light Writings: Crush II

Welp, looks like we are having this conversation again after so many years. Well 2 years and 3 months to be exact. The last time I wrote about my crush, I was in a different state of mind where I know it can be nothing more than just that, a crush.

First Impression: Brothers Conflict

I may or may not like this. It is after all about incest. I don't care if they are from different mother/father. As far as I am concern, once you are siblings either by marriage or something else, that is incest. They are incest anime that I can't get enough of like Yasuga no Sora and then there's anime incest that I fucking hate like Aki Sora. So let see where would Brothers Conflict be.

(c) Sayaomu
Err yeah, after watching the episode, I still have no idea what to think about this show. I have expected some brotherly love that goes beyond the blood but when I saw it happening, especially with Kaname, I was grossed out. Then I was trolled with the twincest which made me somewhat mad. The fujoshi in me wants them to be together but we all know that both of the twin will eventually fall for Chii, just like the rest of them brothers.

Fuck. I hate Chii.

Well, maybe not. Maybe I'm just envious of her. I want to stay at a place full of males too. Wait... LOL what am I saying. I have been surrounded by males all my life!

So yeah, I hate her and her pet Juli.

The males are definitely pleasing on the eyes. They picked one hell of a cast for the seiyuus and if there's any reason why I would continue watching this show, it's because of them seiyuus.

Overall, it was okay. I just let my biased opinion gets in the way :P

Love Lab episode 2: The introduction of the Student Council's secretary, treasurer and the president. The secretary is a big klutz which I found kinda cute while the treasurer and the president are somewhat the villain of this show. Riko is still the most normal character in the show though.

Anyone else think Chii is a slut? Watching episode 3 of Brothers Conflict really pissed me off. Anyway, they have introduced all 13 brothers. And guess what, the twins are actually triplet! But looks like the focus has shifted back to Subaru and Chii. It's their parent's wedding by the way and I still cannot brain how the fuck a woman that young can have 13 sons  with the oldest looks like the same age as her. Logic down the drain...

Wednesday, July 24

Maki fell sick in episode 3 of Love Lab. So Riko asked Sayo to join the Student Council again. She didn't know that Eno has a cunning plan on her own in order to regain her position as President. She changed her mind though but the paperwork was fucked up and so there are commotion during the meeting. If it wasn't for Sayo and Riko, both Eno and Maki would have get the end of the stick. So now that the issue has been solved, Eno and Sayo joined the Student Council again with Riko as the latest member.

Episode 4 of Free! focused on Rei learning to swim. He has a hard time learning until towards the end when he tried the butterfly stroke and voila! I think KyoAni was trying too hard with this episode especially when they tried out various swimsuit on the boys. I should like it but somehow I don't. Something must be wrong with me. Anyhoo, Rin accidentally met Haru during the shopping and told him that he needs Haru to take swimming seriously otherwise, even if he wins, he can't move on. Awww these two are so in love with each other...

I am still recovering from my fever. When night comes, it's getting worse which mean I'm sorta bed ridden and so it's as good time as any to watch Gatchaman Crowd episode 2. Instead of getting rid of the MESS, Hajime let it go. Her senpai is obviously more than mad at her but she totally has different idea than the rest of the Gatchaman. She's definitely not one to play by the rules. The second time they fight, Hajime managed to get friendly with the MESS and so it returned everything that it took. Towards the end of the episode, they showed two villains. One of them is the guy behind GALAX. Ah, plot twist already.

I feel like dropping Blood Lad every time I watched it. The urge to kill Fuyumi is too overwhelming. Anyway, in episode 3, Staz seeked Wolf to get the book of resurrection. They settled it through boxing. If Staz wins, he gets the book. If he lost, Wolf gets Fuyumi. Their match was interrupted though by Bel and Staz gets the book anyway. Unfortunately no one can decipher it so Staz thought of going straight to the writer who happened to be his brother. He doesn't look very thrill.

Genshiken Nidaime episode 3 focused on Madarame and his crush on Saki. Everyone knows about it which surprised Madarame but he still acts as if he doesn't understand what they are saying LOL obvious shit is obvious Madarame. Then the story switched to Hato. It's the first time I get to see Hato being himself, a guy, but his conscious is always with him, putting BL ideas in his head. It looks like he's banking on Hato x Mada but Madarame being such a straightforward guy didn't get the hint at all. I certainly enjoyed this episode heh

yesssssss~

First Impression: Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!

People refer to this anime simply as Watamote and I said in my preview that this show has the potential to please me as a fan. Just look at the protagonist and you know that this has the right condiments to be good.

(c) Maimai Yuki
Oh and I secretly want her to end up with her younger brother ^w^
Watamote it is about a girl who has a really screwed up view of herself. She's unpopular but she has this very positive mindset when it comes to describing herself or if it has anything to do with herself. In reality though, she is just this awkward looking girl with bags under her eyes from playing all those otome games late into the night.

Her askew point of views, in my opinion, are the reason this show is so enjoyable. It's painful to look at her being so wrong about everything that has anything to do with social stuff but at the same time we just couldn't get enough of that. Or at least I can't. I wonder if people like her exist in real life.

One of the highlights of the show for me personally is when she wants to be social adept but whenever she looks at people having conversation and left her out, she has this fucked up conversation in her head about those people and they are most of the time full of sexual innuendos. It goes to show how corrupted her mind is LOL

So yeah, this show is definitely one of the most enjoyable show I've watched this season.

Another anime that looks like it was made just for lolicon. But I won't judge it badly just yet simply because I have a slight hope that the comedy will actually be good. Let's just hope they won't disappoint me, yeah?

Err... yeah... how about nope?

(c) Moson
Gotta admit she's kinda cute though
There's nothing funny or comedic about the show. It was cute and moe all around which is definitely not my thing at all. Less than 10 minutes in, I was already at the edge of my seat ready to flip my computer LOL

So yeah, dropping this before it causes damage.

The animation was good though. They tried very hard to capture the English spirit. Oh and the seiyuu must have work hard to speak all those English lines as fluently as they can.

This show is definitely for lolicon.

Watamote episode 2: Kuro met her friend, Yuu-chan, who was a geek too during middle school. She prepared lots of things to talk about (all askew). She thought that Yuu will still be the same Yuu in middle school but her friend changed so much in terms of appearance but the good thing is, they both can still have fun and what not. At least until the end of the day when Yuu revealed that she has an argument with her first boyfriend and then Kuroki had a withdrawal LMAO

I really enjoyed episode 3 of Free!. All mostly due to Ryugazaki, the new recruit for the swimming team. Initially he's in the track team and is doing vault-pole (When he did the vault-pole thingy, I drooled because it was simply beautiful). He rides the train with Nagisa every morning and that's how Nagisa pestered him to join the swim team.  He refused every single time. Anyhoo, Gou managed to schedule a joint practice with Rin's school. He volunteered to help the swim team but when he saw Haru swim, his heart was basically stolen. By the way, that's when it was revealed that Ryugazaki actually doesn't know how to swim. Kehkehkeh.

Episode 2 of Gin no Saji: They have to pick a club and Hachiken doesn't know which club to choose but since he has hots for that girl from the equestrian club, he joined that club instead. Throughout the episode, he learned to appreciate the animal as well as be more responsible towards them. Nothing special for this episode though which kind of disappointing.

Sunday, July 21

I found that episode 2 of Blood Lad was boring as fuck: Staz and Fumichi went to the human world. Naturally Staz was excited with everything while Fumichi almost disappeared so Staz let her licked his blood (I am envious). Soon Staz realized that Fumichi is indeed something special to him since he didn't get the vampire urge when it comes to the other human beings like he did with her. Then they met Bel-chan, the owner of the gate. She's searching for the demon who stole her magic so that she can marry him. She also told Staz the book that is at West Demon Territory which supposedly has the method how to resurrect Fumichi.

Brothers Conflict episode 2: I have to say that among all the males, I'm most taken in by Subaru. Anyhoo it's his 20th birthday and they were celebrating it. Chii made cakes and whatever. It was clear that Subaru likes Chii but he denied it by being mean. When he went to her room to apologize, he accidentally kissed her when he was knocked out. On the other hand, Yusuke made it clear that he likes her and won't give up on her which mean he won't settle for being siblings. This episode introduced Futo as well, quite a mischievous character who trolled Chii alot. But meh we all know that EVERYONE will eventually likes Chii more than just a sister >_>

Such a tsundere. Hhhhhngh

Episode 15 of Shingeki no Kyojin: The Recon Corps went to their former headquarters for hiding. Hanji came over to ask permission for Eren's help for her experiment with the 4 feet and 7 feet Titans that they captured earlier. As she sat through the night with Eren, the Titans were killed. Before that, Erwin somewhat looks like he has some hidden agenda going on. The death of the Titans could be of his doings.

Yajima has problem registering Hato as a girl in episode 2 of Genshiken Nidaime. I can't blame her though. Once you have seen the dong, that's it. The story behind Hato's cross-dressing is pretty straight forward: he's been bullied for liking BL, and he likes it. Since he's a fudanshi, whenever a guy want to approach him, he gets quite the BL rush. In the mean time, Ogiue managed to get her one-shot manga in the magazine and the club members of Genshiken are helping her out.

oh my~

19 July 2013

First Impression: Genshiken Nidaime

I put this show in my must watch list based on the the previous two seasons of Genshiken. I think this show is a must for anyone who considered themselves weaboo enough. It is after all a show about otaku in their elements.

still missing the old cast though
23 minutes passed by without me noticing it. That's what great anime is all about. Kudos Production I.G. for another superb anime.

I still get the old Genshiken vibes through the designs and characters so there's a continuity there that I appreciate. Even more so since the old familiar faces are still around, like Madarame and Sasahara. They are after all that created Genshiken.

Ogiue is the president of the club and her mission in this first episode is to find more members for Genshiken. The club already have Ohno, Kuchiki and Sue (I love it when she suddenly declared Ogiue as her waifu). Through her talent in drawing, Ogiue managed to get three more members. One of them is a crossdresser (trap). There are some issues regarding where should she changed and all that. Sue quickly solved the problem by sending Hato to Madarame whenever he wanna change since his house is only 5 minutes away.

I have no complains for this show. I enjoyed it as I have expected. Great stuff indeed.

First Impression: Blood Lad

I look forward to this show since... well, since they first announced the adaptation. It's definitely something that seems to suite my taste better than any of the anime I've seen from the Summer season so far. After all, I do have some weird fetishes and blood just happens to be one of them.

But wait a second... where's the freaking blood?

It's all happy and cheerful with this anime. Doesn't mean that it's not good but yeah I was pretty disappointed. I expected something gore, not this fuwa-fuwa shit. Staz is great though. I like him the moment he was introduced. He's a vampire descendant and the boss of the East Demon world. He loves anything human and especially adores Japan. One day, a melon on two legs appeared. He was excited as fuck until she was killed and become a demon. Somehow one thing led to another, so he promised to bring her back to life and follows her to the human world.

Like I said, no blood was spilled. Staz did fight a bad guy but I wouldn't even called it a fight. More like the show just trying to show off that Staz is really the boss of the territory.

Oh pardon me, I didn't notice the comedy genre up until now. Dafuq.

Will continue to watch this though.

All my hopes lie with the fact that Madhouse Studios is producing this. Let's hope then that the studio delivers even though the plot is already sounds disappointing. Having said that, after looking at the poster at MAL, my heart sinks: a loli holding a spade? Ah I hope there are other characters that makes watching this worth while...

(c) Shino (Eefy)
And thank goodness they introduced a white hair male protagonist right away otherwise I would have dropped this even before it started.

The plot is about the loli whose name is Ai. She was made to believe that she's a gravekeeper. That title mean something in this alternate world because it has power to keep the dead, well... dead. One day, her world collapse when a Hampnie Hambart went into her town, killed everyone and revealed that she's not really a gravekeeper.

And just like Madhouse, it managed to keep the mystery shit going which makes me intrigued to find out more, not only about Ai but about Hampnie as well.

Mission success, Madhouse. Well done.

Shingeki no Kyojin episode 12: Eren lost control of himself as a titan so he attacked Mikasa but somewhat hurt himself. When the other saw what he did, they all quickly lost hope. Thanks to Ian though, they stuck to their plan albeit reluctantly. However, since Eren was down, all the other titans are attracted to him so the elite teams have difficulties defending him from getting eaten. I gotta hand it to Armin. His quick thinking to wake Eren up works (feels like eternity though). Credits must be given to Jean and other guys too for fighting so bravely, especially Jeans since his 3D maneuver broke and all.

Episode 2 of Free!: Rin won the race against Haru but he ain't happy about it because Haru was on his tail without breaking a sweat. The others then found out that Rin has been coming back from Australia every New Year but he didn't bother to find them. Apparently Haru and Rin had a race once where Haru beat Rin oh so easily. This is a year after Rin studied in Australia so naturally Rin was hurt and from that moment on, Haru decided to quit swim competitively. Ah the BL is so strong in this one. Haru is especially affected by Rin so much behind that stoic facade of his.

kyaaaaaa!!

Sunday, July 14

Episode 13 of Shingeki no Kyojin was intense as fuck. Eren finally managed to control the Titan and so the humans became the bait in order for him to complete his task. I admitted that I shed tears when people were getting eaten and killed left and right. If I'm in their shoes, I would have probably broken down from all the grief for my dying comrades. Anyhoo, Eren successfully installed the boulder to closed off the hole in the wall. That's the first time humans win against the Titan but at such a high cost too. Eren was then captured by the police. After some interrogation by the Recon Corps, Levi made a decision to accept Eren under his wings. Now I'm excited as fuck for the next episode.

After watching episode 2 of Danganronpa, I've decided to drop this shit. It's getting ridiculous. Maizono was killed and then monokuma decided to have a trial. If they guessed the wrong culprit, they'll die. One of the student, the model, opposed and she was killed on the spot. And get this, the blood was violet. That was it for me then.

Shingeki no Kyojin episode 14: Eren is put on trial as humans are unsure if his existence as Titan  would be a threat to them or a saviour. The police wants him dead since he could start a rebel. The Garrison wanted him alive but with no strong proposition. It was Recon Corps, or should I say Levi, that put matter to rest when he beat the crap out of Eren just to show them that he's the only one who can kill Eren as Titan (which is sorta true). And so the court let Eren joined the Recon Corps.

this should be a really bad ass moment for Levi but that pose... LOL

Anime for lolicons. That's my first thought when I read the synopsis in the preview. Since I am not a lolicon, I figured I will be stressing out when I watch this anime. Hopefully though not to the point where I start questioning why are we letting such anime exist. Furthermore, it's about magic. I do not like magical stuff.

It's pretty much about Akira who inherited her late mother's ability in fortune telling. Turned out she has super power and she's not the only one. Together, they become somewhat a Power Ranger. Naturally when there's power, there will be villains though it is still unclear who they could be.

The plot is weak in my opinion. Nothing particularly stands out. The animation was average, the seiyuus sound annoying and I was bored to death.

Not gonna watch this. Too childish for me. It's not shit though. Just not my cup of tea.

Oh dear. I know from the moment I read that synopsis that I won't like this kind of show and I was right. They have several short skits about shit they do in their "going home club". Actually, they didn't do anything at all but talk about useless shit. The members, except for Nat-chan, are pretty much stupid bimbo.

I am not sure what part of this show was supposed to be funny/good with that kind of plot.

First Impression: Danganronpa Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei

I quickly judged that this show cannot deliver what it promised based on the studio and the plot that I read from the preview. However, I heard a lot of good things been said about this show on twitter so I guess I was wrong?

So naturally I'm looking forward to check this out.

(c) Mico

Well, the start of the show is definitely intriguing. You don't get to see that everyday. But it quickly goes down hill from there. The plot isn't actually original. How many times have we read/watch something similar where they gathered bunch of kids in one place and forced them to kill each other in order to survive, in this case, get out of the school.

The characters are not really special either. I feel like the anime is mocking me with the character designs. Some of the personalities are OK I guess but just take a look at the protagonist for example. He's weak as fuck and it is really annoying. One of the guy, the most meaty one at that, wears a girl's uniform. Just what the hell? Is this anime supposed to be funny or serious? It can't be both at the same time. Sadly though it seems like the studio can't decide to be which and just go with it.

Urgh I'm still mad that they chose someone that weak to be the protagonist.

Let's just hope that shit will get better with the upcoming episode. I'm sure one of them will snap and kill. Maybe then this show will appeal to me. You know, blood and all.

I don't remember writing my preview thoughts for this show because it wasn't included so I checked MAL and by just looking at the poster, I can pretty much tell that I'm gonna like this show at all.

And boy I was right. There's too much muscle involved. The protagonists are giants while everyone else are midgets. The story took place during the Sengoku Era so there must be some political shit involved as well as samurai and what not. In any other show, I would probably be interested but this is just too blurgh for me.

Some fujoshi might like it though since the two protagonists are best friends and all so they are definitely BL material.

First Impression: Love Lab

Ah, it says romance as one of it's genre. I see no guy in the character list which mean this is going to be a shoujo-ai anime. Not really my thing and I'm sure after this episode, I will drop this. Or maybe it's so good that it can turn me into a yuri fan. Who knows right?

(c) Hao
The animation is definitely one of the strongest point for this show. The character designs especially are very appealing. When they revealed Riko, she was quick to get my attention because the studio managed to capture her personality when they created her. Her clothes, hair and the way she strutted around school, it was flawless. Same goes when it comes to the comedic part of the show; the chibi-fied characters and their facial expressions were on the spot.

This is one of those anime that is character-driven. Lucky for us the studio managed to create two female protagonists without one character out-balance the other. Though the relationship formed between them is somewhat forceful in the plot, the interaction and the chemistry between them weren't so that it becomes comedy seamlessly.

And since we talked about plot, lets get into it right away. Riko is the 'tomboy' and Maki is the 'damsel'. Both are admired by the students. One thing led to another and suddenly Riko has to teach Maki about love. Sounds cliche but it wasn't. I thought it was fresh (maybe because I have never seen any shoujo-ai anime). Most importantly, it wasn't pretentious which is a good thing otherwise I would have hated it.

There's this part where Riko's male friends said that she is just like one of the guys so that they don't have to worry about falling for her because it won't happen. Well, during my school years, I experienced just that. To be honest, I was worried. But then, after high school is over, the guys kinda wanna date me. This included the guys I met during college years. All of my four exs were my best friends. I have no freaking idea what happened... they might have a sudden revelation that I'm awesome as fuck but yeah... what I'm trying to say is, Riko actually still has hope to have a heterosexual relationship.

It's not often (more like, never) that I laughed my ass off watching two females of who I know going to have feelings for each other. Love Lab managed to do so which is somehow a feat in it's own right.

What I'm going to say is, I'm glad that I checked this out. Though it didn't turn me into a yuri fan (yet), it does makes me wanna see more of the series. I enjoyed the comedy a lot. Recommended!

My first impression when I first saw the synopsis was this: too much going on. The plot is everywhere since it seemed like they want to include everything in it. The second episode is already out when I'm writing this but I haven't seen anyone mention anything about this show. I have a sinking feeling that this is going to be quite an unpleasant.

(c) Nabeshima Tetsuhiro
A kid who loves book got murdered trying to save his favorite author. He was reborn as a dog and the author can somewhat read his mind so she adopted him but threatened to kill him every chance she get. I guess the rest of the plot will be about them trying to find the murderer and at the same time solving some mystery shit.

The animation, the character designs, the characters, the OP/ED and seiyuus were all average. The only thing that stands out, in my opinion, is Takahiro Sakurai as the dog's seiyuu. He did quite a good job at it otherwise the show will be flat as Natsuno's chest.

I don't think I'll be watching this week after week. I'll just save this for whenever.

Diary of a tard: Week 1, July 2013

Aku no Hana episode 12: The cinematography for this anime is nothing but excellence. The variation of camera works are really something especially during the middle of the episode. Anyhoo, since Kasuga now realized that he needs Nakamura (and he thought vice versa), he tried to talk to Nakamura again but she just ignored him. This pushed him to go to her house where he was invited to come in. Her dad told him that she's the same at home too, cussing a lot and do as she likes. At the end of the episode, Kasuga went into her room which has "keep out shit-face" written on the door LOL

Last and final episode for Aku no Hana: Nakamura's room was plain. I dunno what did I expect but somehow I feel a bit disappointed. Takao found Nakamura's diary though and he shed manly tears as he read it. Just as he finished it, Nakamura entered the room, chased him out but failed so she took the diary from his hands and bolted out. Of course Takao chased her then. When he caught up with her, there's this complicated scene where layer upon layer of shits are happening. I'm pretty sure it's from the future since it seems that Takao let go of everything and created "beyond the hill" place for them both. They fucked everything else which of course didn't sit well with everyone else. And that's that. That's the end of part 1. So yeah, here hoping for part 2.

First Impression: Servant x Service

This show is automatically in my MUST WATCH list simple because it's produced by A-1 Pictures. Why? Well, that's my most favorite studio, is why! But then again, there are several shows from this studio that I dropped like Oreimo for example because there's character that I cannot tolerate in it.

Servant x Service sounds just like a show that I will try to avoid. In my head, anything that has the word servant and service in it's title has ecchi written all over the plot. But I have faith in the studio. Even if there are fan services, I hope they remain classy.

And I was right. The only fan service you'll get is the bouncing of melons. I'm okay with that.

But the plot is weak. Too weak. The animation was average too. It somewhat doesn't really feel A-1 Picture-ish. I expected something more... well-developed.

It's about this three characters being employed at civil service office, with their hopeless supervisor. Each has personality of their own: Lucy wants revenge because of her name (like I said, weak plot is weak), Miyoshi is timid, Chihaya is stoic, Ichimiya is somewhat useless imo and Hasebe to liven up the dull office. Nothing much going on. Hopefully they'll develop some romance between Lucy and Hasebe along the way but I doubt it.

You know that a show is average as fuck when you can't find any fan made drawings of them. Mediocre is a pretty fitting word to describe this show.

But because it's A-1 Pictures, I'll try my best to keep up with it. I hope it won't get any stupider though.

First Impression: Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko

I have my reservation for this show simply because I'm not a fan of any ecchi/hentai genre and the blatant hentai in the title is enough to put me off. However, lets not forget that this show is produced by J.C. Staff. They often produced good anime despite the title and I have a list to prove that.

Watching the OP, I have a feeling that this show is going to turn out as harem which is not far from the truth. There are three girls, each with different identity: stoic, tsundere and yandere. Then there's this dude who is basically a hentai through-and-through.

The stoic and him made a wish at a stony cat statue and both get the wishes that they desired. Hentai has lost his facade and the stoic girl, her facial expression. It is only then that they realized they made a mistake so they are going to help each other to get what they have lost.

Hentai-san facade is now belong to the tsundere. We still need to figure out where miss stoic's facial expression went to.

I can't say that I enjoy the show because it was too over the top most of the time, as well as the hentai shit. It wasn't bad though, just not my cup of tea.

First Impression: Arata Kangatari

I pay no heed to this show until I reread my preview for Spring. How could I forget the important fact that this show might have a boy pretending to be a girl? Lets just hope that this one will go horribly right. After all, isn't this the only show that is featured in noitaminA this season?

But oh dear.  This is such an average show, I dunno where to begin. Yes, there is a boy who was forced to pretend as a girl to be the princess but that lasted for less than 5 minutes.

There are two Arata. One from the other world, and the other from Japan. The former was chosen to be the succeeding princess but was framed as the princess murderer instead by the Twelve Shinsho who planned to take over the ruling of that place. The latter Arata on the other hand is pathetic as fuck. He's often being bullied and has no friends. Somehow, due to the forest magical shit thingy, they switched place.

I'm more intrigued to see how the former Arata cope with living in Japan than the emo-whining Avatar that travel to that magical world.

The animation was below average for an anime that is featured in noitaminA. The plot was kinda meh too. I dunno how the hell did this show get chosen =\

Having said that, the Twelve Shinsho are actually quite hawt LOL

First Impression: Free!

Ever since the teaser that Kyoto Animation released some time ago and then the announcement of the anime, everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, including the straight guys, are anticipating the airing of this show. But no one are as excited about the news as the fujoshis and who can blame them?

Kyoto Animation has always been known for producing moe anime that is full of high school girls. This time around, though it is still moe, it is full of bishie high school guys wearing spandex. What's not to love?

This show, though one might mistaken as just something for fujoshi to fap to, actually has a plot. It revolves around 4 guys (will be 5 soon) who love swimming. Two of the guys obviously have a thing for each other and voila! However, to make it interesting, they create Rin to be this somewhat "bad guy" while Haru is just an emo bitch so that there will be dorama ahead. KyoAni is pretty straightforward with the OTP for this show.

Naturally the animation and arts are almost flawless. The flipping of wet hair, the butt, crotch and butt shots (yes I know I wrote butt twice) are all glorious. I expect nothing less from Kyoto Animation. It is surely a sight for sore eyes.

The moe-ness gets even more grand during the ED of SPLASH FREE. At first I was WTF-ing but soon enough I was fapping.

I didn't enjoy or get excited about this show as I thought it would be. It was probably because I was watching it in the middle of work. I shall try and watch it again. Especially the ED. Gonna put it on repeat heh.

Aku no Hana

Well now, where should I start...

I was couple of weeks late into the series. When everyone was done hyping and spazzing about Aku no Hana, I was just about to check out the first episode. When I saw the animation, it was definitely something that is not the norm. It's like they filmed a real life dorama and then animated it frame by frame. Needless to say, I was impressed. It makes the animation so alive and gives so much personality to the characters. Take the walking of each character for example. Simple things like that, in my opinion, what makes Aku no Hana, in term of arts and animation, so much win.

And then there's the story itself, which is, if not entirely original, it sure is close. Aku no Hana means the Evil Flower in English. It derives from Takao Kasuga's favorite book. He is the male protagonist of this series by the way. The book is complicated and deep as shit, and triggered some very twisted, evil and sinister thoughts. Takao did quote some of the work inside the book earlier in the episode but after the third episode, the story itself takes the center stage.

I personally believe that the story/plot only started when they introduced Nakamura Sawa, the female protagonist who is so fucking original, I fell for her in an instant. She is like the book itself, triggering dark thoughts. Whenever she takes off her glasses, and she only did so with Kasuga, you know she means business.

Nakamura, in Kasuga's mind, is someone who is lonely and is fighting not to drown in this mundane world. Kasuga, for Nakamura, is someone that is similar to her but is afraid for the others to find out. Her mission is to make Kasuga comes out of his hentai closet.

Nakamura Sawa, to put it simply, reminds me so much of  myself that she becomes my muse. Oh, and I think she is awesome as fuck which is why she deserved to be in my most favorite characters list XD

Everything about Aku no Hana is twisted. The ED especially will give you the creep but at the same time so addictive. The somewhat fucked-up OP too is pretty telling that this series is not your average anime series.

There are couple of episodes that left me speechless but I'm sure everyone will agree that nothing can actually prepare you for the greatness of the ending of episode seven. It was liberating in more ways than one, not only for the protagonist but also for me personally as an audience. Then there's episode ten where Kasuga was once again got stripped by Nakamura. The revelation that he had however what makes the episode so enjoyable for me.

At the end of every episode of Aku no Hana, I often felt somewhat hollowed. It makes  me craving for more. It has been a while I got this excited for an anime. In fact, I can't remember the last anime that got me all worked out like this. Needless to say, I think Aku no Hana is a very awesome anime. I definitely recommended it to everyone. I forced my minions to watch it and as predicted they got hooked on it too. They all agree that watching this show is an experience in itself. I guess it helps people coming to terms with their own inner demon, if they have any.

Some people may have complains about the pacing of this show. Well, I don't. I thought it was necessary for the build up of, most often than not, a heart-pumping-fist-in-the-air, ending of each episode. Having said that, their avant-garde ending of the show kind of left me in a blur. I had to watch it for a couple of time to get what it was trying to say. It was all bunched up together incoherently. You either love it or hate it.

I do hope they are not trolling us with the hint of Part 2 of this show. While waiting for that, I am going to make sure that I pick up the manga for reading. It's just that good.

Aku no Hana... a show that I expected nothing from but get everything and more. I love every minute of it.

p/s: did you know that I have the same moles on my face just like Nakamura's. One on my left cheek and the other on my chin. Talk about coincidence!
